Nic Cage:
He continued: “How do you survive AI? Amazon is a very AI friendly company to the tune of 50 billion dollars invested to OpenAI. I am not an AI friendly actor. I didn’t sign the waiver to let them use AI on Spider-Noir. It’s kind of like I’m probably not going to be working with that studio again. But that’s OK. So I got to get with these young directors who are Gen Z and they’re going at it their own way, whether it’s through the YouTube culture or whatever it is. They’re doing it from scratch and by hand. I want to get with that.”

This came up in this year’s @saloneurope.bsky.social panel discussion. Our disconnections feel so sharp atm. Having people around for meals - the generosity of hosting, the receiving of that gift of food - seems small but is a powerful act of love and community.

Bought this 10 days ago but told myself I couldn’t read it until I finished the three books I was part-way through. Just closed the cover on the last of the three and HOLY HECK I’m excited to get started.
A paperback book rests on a burgundy and white floral bedspread. The book title - Dear Monica Lewinsky - is in curly fuchsia on a cream background. Beneath the title is a drawing from a medieval manuscript, of a skinny red faced soldier beheading a helpless woman.

the reason “AI will create so much abundance we will have a utopian society” rhetoric falls so flat is that the people building it will never, ever share their bounty unless it is taken from them and we all know it

I love this tree. Like an athlete taping up their muscles, it's woven and strapped up its bark so it can get on with the important job of being really bloody massive.
The lattice-work trunk of a tree - cottonwood? Walnut? Acacia? Chestnut? Clearly I don’t know. What I do know is it’s massive (it would take three people to hug it) and far too big for its pavement plot and therefore wonderful in how it’s making us respect its authority.

I know there’s low danger of them coming into power but good Christ, £47bn? How? Local goons going door to door for a weekly shake down? There’s nothing left to cut.

Found a painting of Timothee Chalmet in his first role as David from <checks notes> 1616.
A gilt picture from of an oil painting. It’s dark and broody and in the front middle is the head of Goliath. Hover over Goliath like a pale young saviour is Timothee Chalamet. You can be sure is Chalamet because his front shoulder is bar and dropped and stares off past your eye line, tortured. The label of the paining. It’s by Valentine de Boulogne who lived and worked in Europe from 1599- 1632 which is incredible because he managed to cross paths with Timothee Chalamet while there.

Quite emotional to report that we've just found our amazing survivor Marsh Tit, still here in his ancient woodland kingdom. He's now 11 yrs 4 months old, survived the 2026 heatwaves/drought and smelt the wildfires of nearby Holme Fen. I ringed him in my 30s and I'm now in my 50s.

London musical theatre PSA: the excellent production of Into the Woods at The Bridge Theatre is moving to the West End. Moves at a clip and serves up the comedy and darkness in delightful, delicious dollops.
A poster advertising the musical Into the Woods. The poster is landscape sized and overwhelmingly black. On the right edge a red cloaked, curly haired girl in (slightly) garish makeup looks back over her shoulder in excitement or fright. In the middle of the canvas the words ‘into the woods’ are written in bold capital letters. Beneath them, small enough to be the last line in an eye test, it says ‘and happy ever after’.

Seems weird the whole "are you ready for war if it happens" thing the government is pushing when clearly we've been at war via misinformation, funding far right hate groups, attacking British institutions and so forth for ages. A better question is "when is the government going to do something?"

I’ll hold my hands up and say I’d struggle to come up with a decent gift for a Pope. Months of overthinking that gets distilled into a Lego Trevi Fountain ‘because the real-life crowds might overwhelm you’.

The sneaking out of the awful gifts, after whatever statute of limitations lapses, must also be like a thrilling reverse heist. Picking the trusted ally, building the false bottomed briefcase, replacing the Furby with a perfectly weighted bag of sand.

It’s fascinating/horrifying to me for the ‘quiet part out loud’ symbolism of it. People literally wearing fronting their right wing-ness in the most in-your-face way as poss. Like in order to go masks off they’ve also put masks on. Whew, the metaphors here.

I’ve never (consciously) read Frank O’Hara so you’ve made a new student in me. I think the book’s great. It’s stream of consciousness so you have to sway with its rhythm. But by focusing on one relationship it amplifies the tragedy of all the losses from AIDS.
