Cancer52 is pleased to welcome its latest member, the UK Acute Oncology Society (UKAOS). A multidisciplinary group of health professionals with the aim that acute needs of cancer patients are recognised, assessed and managed at the right time & place, and by the appropriate team. Great to meet with Minister @sharonhodgsonmp.bsky.social alongside fellow cancer charities yesterday. Topics discussed included implementation of the National Cancer Plan & Rare Cancers Act, importance of reducing late diagnosis, and the distinct challenges faced in rare & less common cancers.

Scott Arthur MP's Private Members Bill - supported by many of our member charities, has officially become law! The Rare Cancers Act 2026 will prioritise long overlooked aspects of research, and has the potential to transform outcomes for those affected by rare and less common cancers.

World Cancer Day is a reminder to come together to take action against cancer. In the UK, 47% of cancer diagnoses are of rare and less common cancers, yet they account for 55% of cancer deaths. We must work collaboratively to overcome this difference. #WorldCancerDay #UnitedByUnique

This week is Less Survivable Cancers Awareness Week. Five out of the six cancers – brain, liver, oesophageal, pancreatic and stomach – are rare and less common. Like many rare and less common cancers, the less survivable cancers typically have less investment in research. #CloseTheResearchGap

2.92 million new cancer cases will be rare & less common. We welcome the six tests nominated by #OneCancerVoice. Focussed and targeted action in the new National Cancer Plan is needed to combat the projected increase to and provide a much-needed boost to survival rates.

We are so pleased that the Rare Cancers Bill passed its 3rd Reading in the House of Commons on Friday. This Bill could mark a significant step forward in addressing the urgent need for increased focus and research in the field of rare cancers.
