#theBeeAt3 Basic bee facts every day at 3pm. # 40 #Bumblebees have four wings. The two back wings are smaller and are usually attached to the bigger front wings by a row of hooks. This can sometimes lead to the mistaken impression that they only have two wings. #bees #nature

My deep desire to just live in a forest has once again driven me to make a moss blanket. You can’t have too many moss blankets.
A fuzzy green blanket that resembles moss is being crocheted. In the bottom right corner you can see Nicole’s hand holding an orange crochet hook.

There are more than 15,000 species of fungi in the UK, and they play a vital role in healthy ecosystems. But fungi - like all life on earth - rely on healthy soil. Help save soil with these tips: bit.ly/3ULsOhO #biodiversity #organic #wildlifegarden

Word of the morning is ‘williwaw’ (19th century): a sudden violent squall or a toppling gust of wind. Goes well with ‘thunderplump’: a sudden downpour that soaks you to the skin in seconds.

A bumblebee can only fly for about 40 mins between feeding. But we've lost 97% of our wiłdflower meadows. So each nectar-rich flower you plant in a windowbox or in your garden or community green spaces could be the pit stop that saves a bee 🐝 #SaveTheBees

Just a mid-week Moorhen skating through your frosty feeds...
This sleek Moorhen struts across a frosty surface, showcasing its dark plumage with hints of white and vivid yellow-green legs. Its bright red bill with a yellow tip adds a striking pop of colour, standing out against the icy background. Frost clings delicately to its feathers, giving a sense of the cold chill in the air as it steps carefully on the frozen ground.

UK bumblebee populations have crashed recently. Help them – and other pollinators – by growing plants that flower in autumn, winter & early spring. Many bumblebees and butterflies hibernate, but they can be active on warm days, and will need food! Ideas for plants: bit.ly/3OhYh7I
