A foggy graveyard behind a crooked iron fence and gate, the gate is open and a dirt path leads into (and through) the graveyard. The sky is a dusty red to yellow, the horizon a shadowed dusty purple-blue.

Scenes from Cypress Hills in Saskatchewan, August 21, 2025, framing the Milky Way core in Sagittarius over the pines. One image used a narrowband filter to bring out the red nebulas, and a version of that image has labels. It's a busy area! Tech details are in the Alt Text.

Technical:
This is a blend of:
- a single 2-minute exposure, untracked, for the ground, blended with ...
- a stack of 5 x 1 minute exposures, tracked, for the sky, plus ...
- an additional tracked 2-minute exposure layered in, taken at the end of the set through an Astronomik "narrowband" H-Alpha clip-in filter, to add the red nebulas.
- all with the Canon RF 28-70mm lens at f/2 and set to 35mm, on the astro-modified Canon EOS R at ISO 1600 (3200 for the Ha shot), and on the MSM Nomad tracker.
Masking and blending all the images, with the trees in the foreground was a challenge! The camera was not moved — all images were from the same tripod position.

In the foreground is a rocky mountainside in the Sierra Nevada mountains. Once the rocks aren't so solid, the forest is visible, and beyond that is a glimpse of Silver Lake at Kit Carson. Mountains are in the background, with the highest peak visible being Thunder Mountain. The sky is blue, but there is haze due to wildfires.

A tree lined coast stretches almost to the horizon in the right half of frame, ending at a stone cliff, a single bench sheltered by an oversized leaf is nestled under one of the larger trees, facing the shore. The left half of frame is split almost evenly between the gentle waves of the ocean and the heart cloud mottled sky, both stained shades of pinks, purples, lilacs, and blues by the setting sun.
