This summer started with an unprecedented heatwave in late May. It's almost October now, and last night temperatures over most of the UK were between 7C and 11C hotter than normal for the time of year. From istheukhotrightnow.com

A temperature rise of 0.5C in the Pacific (above the 30 year rolling average) is the threshold for declaring an El Niño. Above 2C is a 'super' El Niño The 2026 temperature rise has reached 3.05C, the highest ever recorded, several months before its expected peak, which is predicted to be around 4C

Another (pretty important) flaw is that this would require scaling up artificial carbon dioxide removal to something like 20x current global capacity just for UK flights. Or relying on junk carbon credits for ‘forest preservation’ or whatever. Unlikely to be physically achievable.

All sorts of claims about Heathrow expansion fall apart when they are examined. This is an interesting one. "Heathrow handles over 1/4 of UK trade by value (£293bn)" But it's only £120bn, less than Dover, if you exclude banks & traders moving gold around. NB moving gold has no impact on GDP (Link £)

It’s not helpful that the UNEP report skims over the urgency of the fossil fuels to renewables transition. It doesn’t even mention fossil fuels in the executive summary, and a quick search brings up ‘fossil’ 17 times in total compared to 138 for ‘CDR’.
