I got harassed by a cis woman coworker just this week. It was my other cis woman coworkers who stood up for me and defended me. Acting like a woman blocking you for saying she needed to be nicer to her harasser is transphobia is genuinely wild. I know shit sucks for us. This isn’t the answer.

Men DO just do that! And when they get blocked for it, they get angry! They do that to trans women just as much if not more than cis women! My best friend has had this exact same thing happen to her for years. Yeah maybe this guy needs help, probably does, that’s not this woman’s problem.

I get where you’re coming from, as another trans woman who used to think she was a lonely boy, this is something different. Men are not insects, but women (we are included in this!) have the right to discuss the ways in which our oppressors (we are not included in this!) harass and demean us.

For me, it’s got a happy ending. I’ve got two jobs right now, as a ghost tour guide and as a sales lead. Both jobs were the result of stumbling across a kind cis woman in the right place at the right moment. Most stories don’t end that way. I didn’t think mine would. Hire trans people. Now.

There’s a specific look an interviewer gets, when they’ve expected to sit down with whoever they envisioned for “Charlotte” and you show up instead. The rest of the interview’s just academic at that point. You can have the most experience, the most glowing recommendations, it does not matter.

I quit my job the week before I started medically transitioning. I’d had experience as a location manager and I thought I could translate that into a new job easily. I was wrong. The following three years were an extremely painful lesson in just how hard it is to be trans. No one will hire you.
