Had a lovely walk with a friend along the shore at Pt. Isabel while the SF skyline and Marin hills were painted with sunset colors. #Photography #Nature #SanFrancisco #EastBayRegionalParks #iPhonePhotography #Sunset
A ribbon of water winds through a channel at sunset. near the horizon the water is nearly sliver, shifting to reflected peach and yellow as it comes down to fill the bottom of frame with darkness. Above, the horizon is washed with deep orange, peach, and light yellow blending into the incoming night sky. SF skyline at night as seen from the east side of the bay the city is a brightly lit with normal nighttime lights and extra for the winter holidays. on the left the Bay Bride, also lit up with warm lights, flows the the edge of the image. The bay mirrors both the deepening dark of the sky and all the lights. Landscape view of low tide in a channel that runs into the SF Bay. the water is silvered blue, reflecting the oranges of the setting sun. the land on either side of the channel is nearly black with a pair of evergreen trees silhouetted in black. The Golden Gat bridge flows between Marin on the right and SF, unseen, behind the trees. behind the trees and bay

Some photos from W W trip in Sept. w/ Discovery WW in Monterey, CA. It was a great trip, though one of the rougher rides I've been on. I got seasick for the first time that I can remember. So worth it with the two pairs of Humpbacks we saw! #marinelife 🦑 #Whales #MarineMammals #Humpback #Pelican
Humpback whale rising, tubercle dotted nose first from gray-green water. A pair of brown Western Gulls are flying around its head. A Brown Pelican, long wings outstretched, is taking off from the surface of green-gray water. It's head and neck are white, much of the rest of its body is brown. Two Humpback whales at the surface of nearly gray water, under a fog-gray sky. Their humped dorsal fins are showing while gulls circle around them. Kate and family on the boat as we head out of the harbor. Left to Right: Kate, a white woman smiling at the camera under a blue baseball cap. Beside her is her hubby Scott, also smiling at the camera. He is a white man with red and salt-n-pepper mustache and chin beard. On the right is our friend Cat, also smiling. She is a white woman with dark hair braided into a long queue. They are all bundled up in layers under windbreakers.

Our local crow's nest is very noisy today. Me thinks the family has a new fledgling. I wonder if the parents will use our yard as a day-care again? Though our yard is less crow baby friendly these days w/ more stuff. The adults were always near the baby, in the trees etc. #Crow #Corvid #Wildlife
A fledgling crow: mostly black with bits of grey under plumage showing on their side, looks into a square-ish pond that is covered by a black, wide-mesh-cover. A light gray statue stands behind and to the left of the crow, green plants reach up to the cover from the water on the lower right side.

Distracted by caterpillars and chrysalis' today... We have a Swallowtail caterpillar who just molted from spiky black with red to spiky light green and black. Our Monarch chrysalis is tucked in a lavender bush, starting to get a bit of translucence! Can see some of the lines of the wings now.
two images stacked one a-top the other - both are of a swallowtail caterpillar on a fennel branch.

Top is 1st stage. It's about an inch long, mostly black, with spikes, with a white patch in the middle.

bottom photo: same caterpillar after molt, now stage 2. A bit larger, predominately light green, with black spikes and oranage spots among the spikes. A bright green chrysalis hangs from a lavender branch. It's nestled near the base of the plant in the shade, surrounded by green lavender leaves. On the right side of the chrysalis, about 1/4 down from the anchor point is a row of tiny golden spots curving from the middle around to the back. Below this are faint vein lines in dark green - the butterfly-to-be forming, showing through the casing as the casing lightens.

Part of why I love going whale watching is for the moments you can't predict. We know that Humpbacks breach but never when or where. Yes, the passengers got SOAKed and laughed alot in amazement, as did those of us watching. Photos by C. Pennington April 17, 2025 #Humpback #Whale #MarineMammals
A very small black motor boat with a few people on board has a front row seat to a breaching Humpback whale. the whale is dark gray, in mid rotation from front to its back, rising up from the gray-green water only a few feet from the bow of the boat. Same boat, same whale - seconds later as the whale completes its rotation with a massive splash. The end of the whale's dark tail flukes can be seen in the midst of the large and explosive back wash of white water moving toward the boat and her passengers.

SF, here I come! I finally agreed to do a skateboard show. I have no idea if this is my best work right now, hahaha. It's the work I need to make. There have been some health developmentsrecentlys. The big one is that I have a small brain aneurysm. I'm processing this thru art. How'm I doing? #art

Happy Spring Equinox / Ostara to all who celebrate! 💛 🐣🥚🐰 (and Happy Fall Equinox to my friends in the Southern hemisphere) On this day of balance may harmony reign within us and around us. May we honour the interconnectedness of all living beings and strive to live in harmony with Mother Earth.
