Reposted by Dan CallahanMara Bos @mara.bsky.social · 02/06/2026Just like last year, we replaced a whole wall of movie posters with our own punny movie posters at the cinema where RustWeek 2026 took place. I designed seven new posters for this year's event. See the thread below 👇 212433
Dan Callahan @callahad.com · 19/05/2026I could've done this with git! But `jj undo` made it much safer, and deferred conflict resolution made it much easier. The workflow as a whole was just dramatically smoother when juggling commits. 070
Dan Callahan @callahad.com · 19/05/2026We had an internal fork and someone accidentally squash-merged a branch with ~1500 commits into it. Mostly upstream changes, but some of our own too. Only noticed months later when adopting a new upstream release. With jj, I was able to pick apart the merge and rebase everything within a day. 170
Dan Callahan @callahad.com · 18/05/2026Finally had a chance to use #jj-vcs to address a complex problem, and I'm never going back to plain git. Absolutely unreal how easy it made things. It is indeed simpler, safer, and yet more powerful than Git alone. 2375
Dan Callahan @callahad.com · 20/04/2026Red Hat OpenShift uses CRI-O to pull container images. CRI-O sends one `Accept` header per supported MIME type. Harbor only serves OCI artifacts if a client sends OCI Accept headers. CloudFront drops repeated Accept headers. ∴ Putting CloudFront between OpenShift and Harbor breaks image pulls. 000
Dan Callahan @callahad.com · 20/04/2026If you send multiple `Accept` headers, CloudFront drops all but the first. RFC 9110 § 5.2 and 5.3 gives specific examples of when repeated headers are acceptable, and how to handle them. The Accept header fits this definition. Amazon says it doesn't. Sigh. www.rfc-editor.org/rfc/rfc9110.... 130
Dan Callahan @callahad.com · 20/04/2026Dealing with a customer issue that, as far as I can tell, is ultimately caused by AWS CloudFront implementing HTTP incorrectly. Amazon support keeps quoting an RFC section at me, but that section agrees with my interpretation? (And my understanding is shared by RedHat and NGINX...) 🤦♂️ 120

Dan Callahan @callahad.com · 15/03/2026I also enjoy letterpress printmaking and lead type. No practical value, but an enjoyable craft. I'm fine if software goes the same route. Dan Callahan @callahad.com · 16/12/2024The self-encrypting drive is fun. On my previous laptop I was happy enough to manually unlock it in a PBA image. But if I can use the TPM to do it for me... Dan Callahan @callahad.com · 16/12/2024The last two months were bisecting the kernel due to a regression in MediaTek firmware that caused failures resuming from hibernation.
