Short film script call out. Looking for erotic/sexy thrillers. Ideally akin to The Housemaid rather than 365 Days. A nice location, handful of characters etc. Nothing that requires a super high budget for a short. Under 15 pages would be preferable. #filmsky #scriptsky #shortfilm #filmmaking

I watched this today. I can safely say my life has changed. There was a time before a Hard Ticket to Hawaii. I barely remember it. And now I live in a post Hard Ticket to Hawaii world.

Sky's new docudrama The Wargame saying the show contains AI generated action scenes. Get to fuck with that shit. I was already unsure about watching due to the questionable casting, but the AI factor easily makes for a quick turn off.

Quite. They think they're in some twee Ealing comedy when really it's written by Iannucci.

Yeah, I felt S2 of The Gentlemen convinces you he'd be a great Bond in the Pierce Brosnan mould. I think he'll be a Clive Owen type, a wonderful what if scenario.

Universal's brief Dark Universe. One terrible film and a press release photo.

"The original Treasure Island films, with greatest, deepest respect, were terrible, and were always made for kids, with a lot of "arrghh me hearties" and eating the fucking scenery. This is not going to be like that." Ridley Scott speaking to Empire. Making a no fun/adult take on Treasure Island.

It's like the inverse of 90s Trek. This time, the first 2 seasons are good and everything from S3 onwards is hit and miss.

In Star Trek people often complain that replicated food is not as good as naturally produced food, which is weird when replicators are presumably using the same technology as transporters, which can perfectly replicate Spock every time. But is Spock getting less flavoursome over time? In this essay,

If it's any consolation, watching Reacher makes me feel old.

Calum Chalmers @calchal.bsky.social · 18/08/2026
I think it might be a generational thing. Cos with Reacher, every season I'm recognising actors who were big in teen shows and films that I watched as a kid/teen.

The writers themselves have said the script could be divided into 6x30min eps, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms style. So they either sold a spec feature or a spec mini series.

I agree. With The OC, it took 9 eps for the leads to have their first kiss. With Sterling Point and Off Campus, you're getting love triangles resolved in under 8 eps when these things used to fuel 44 eps.

I strongly second this. Just finished the novel, and I think it's the best ultra-dark L.A. noir since peak '80s-'90s James Ellroy. The plotting is sensational; the writing is electric.

Yep, the last cut off point to shoot this was 2017 when Mel was riding the Hacksaw Ridge success. They could have released it March 2018 where it only had to compete against Tomb Raider, Death Wish and Pacific Rim 2. Or early June before Jurassic World 2 dropped.

Same with the previous instalment Everybody Knows. Kinda love it though.

If you have soft spot for teen dramas/coming of age stories, I highly recommend Sterling Point on Amazon. Created by Megan Park (writer/director of My Old Ass) and produced by Josh Schwartz & Stephanie Savage (The OC). It has a wonderful blend of drama and comedy that evokes the old WB shows.

Still love the opera sequence. And apparently that was meant to be the location for the climax before the rewrites began.

I know the context is that there was a test screening and that’s where it came from (also; fuck test screenings) but given that pretty much every straight woman I know is foaming at the mouth to watch Olivia Coleman get pounded by a sentient wicker basket maybe just let the material speak for itself

I highly recommend this brilliant novel. It picks up story threads from his previous novel Everybody Knows, but it works equally well as a standalone thriller. But this feels like Harper's Empire Strikes Back. Not since Don Winslow's cartel trilogy have I wanted the next instalment so badly.

It got released a week early in the UK. They get "drunk" but there's nothing horny related. Progress. Basically Ortegas and Scotty do their version of The Hangover on Not Risa.

If you're in the UK and access Paramount+ through Sky/Now TV, you actually get to watch episode 3 instead. And if you access it through AppleTV, you get to watch episode 4.

I wouldn't worry. The similarities may in fact help it, especially if Other Mommy is a success. Past few years we've had plenty of "my live in android is gonna kill me": Wifelike, Megan, Subservience, TIM, Soulm8te. Some exec might go get me the next Other Mommy. And you're good to go.

I've read articles on previous shows that factor in the international viewership in terms of a show being a success (as well as completion rate). Lockwood and Co played well in the UK but not globally (got the axe). 13 Reasons Why went as long as it did cos it was so hugely popular over seas.

Driver's Ed just dropped on Amazon. Plays very much like a Gen Z take on Road Trip. And you can tell it's Gen Z cos there's a scene where 3 characters discuss how environmentally friendly their car is... as opposed to having a scene where Stifler gets his prostate milked.

Look, if you really need to squeeze money that badly, just hire a cheaper CEO and elimate executive bonuses. That's a bigger windfall than nickel and diming the lower ranks and telling everyone to reuse paper clips and post-its.

I haven’t seen the movie, so this is not a comment on the quality of the movie; but I don’t have any interest in seeing a Robin Hood movie where the marketing tagline is that Robin Hood wasn’t a hero. It’s like marketing cheesecake by saying “this cheesecake is no dessert”
