I reviewed the new Trá Pháidín album for Best Fit. It is stupid good. Batshit good. A boggy mix of post-rock, free jazz, naturalistic ambient. Read here – it's out on Friday www.thelineofbestfit.com/albums/tra-p...

Trá Pháidín cultivate a modernist Irish sound that defies easy categorisation

Trá Pháidín aren’t trying to modernise a form rooted in tradition; rather, they are seeking to bricolage something novel.

Disruptive literary movement idea: stop using "four-piece" and start using "eight-legged", etc, etc

'Mercereau plays every instrument here – guitars, flutes, drums, electronics, and bright technicolour synths – and does so with the kind of maniacal zeal and absurd technical excellence that would make Steve Vai blush.' Nate Mercereau - Fantastic Thoughts buff.ly/QQapS6p

As much a meditation on the modernist movement, in particular artist David Jones, as a look at one of the most original records in recent years. My review of MPTL Microplastics 'Sod in Heaven' finds a deep, disturbing and poetic excavation of the chemical age. open.substack.com/pub/urblinds...

incredible discovery here: the 1762 original of the ha ha ha yes sicko cartoon courtesy of thomas waters new book “Magic”

DECODING HOGARTH'S CREDULITY, SUPERSTITION AND FANATICISM
English artist William Hogarth s iconic engraving Credulity, Superstition, and Fanaticism. A Medley
(1762) expresses the growing tendency, in the 18th-century West, to mock magic. The scene brims with contemporary references and tropes, showcasing different examples of misplaced beliefs.

The print shows a confused scene of various dramatic poses inc a witch on broomstick, preacher etc and crucially a Turkish Muslim looking in through the window

Detail of the Turkish man from larger image “TURKISH MAN
A Turkish Muslim man looks in from the window, smiling at the foolishness of the Christians gathered inside.”

Yes, ha ha ha, yes Sickos meme of man looking through a window.
