I think it's not a great idea for a Democratic congressional nominee running unopposed in a deep-blue district to spend their time going on Fox News to do police abolition takes.
HANNITY: Okay.

You want -- obviously, I went through your list. You want the Green New Deal. Would you like to abolish prisons and abolish the police?

RABB: Well, you know, what's interesting about that statement is long before there was any notion of policing, we had Founders that did not even understand that term. Policing is something that has evolved over time.

Ultimately, what we want is to have communities that are safe. And 99 percent of what police do are not going after the bad guys. All of that can be done in different ways, professionals who are trained to do so.

(CROSSTALK)

HANNITY: So you support -- so you want police -- okay, I'm talking about police that arrest bad people that commit crimes and commit robberies and rape, the child molesters. the drug dealers, those people, the people that have guns, protect the innocent.

(CROSSTALK)

RABB: Were there people who did that before the term police existed, though? I mean, let's talk about this in the appropriate context.

HANNITY: You want to go by the definition. Everyone watching this show knows what policing is. You know what policing is. So let's not play word games. Do you want to be the police or not? Do you want to defund them?

(CROSSTALK)

RABB: I absolutely do. I'm a state lawmaker who represented 70,000 people for 10 years. No --

HANNITY: Do you want them safe and secure? You do -- you do recognize there are murderers, rapists, child molesters, drug dealers, bad people in this world. Do you want to have people that are hired to arrest them?

RABB: We need to keep our communities safe. And there are ways of doing that long before --

(CROSSTALK)

HANNITY: I ask you, do you want police --

RABB: -- the term police ever existed?

My own view is that the central problem with today’s #SCOTUS is the extent to which it isn’t—and doesn’t think it should be—accountable to other government institutions, especially Congress. Today’s “One First” walks through eight of the levers Congress *used* to pull to keep the justices in line:

225. How Congress Used to Leverage the Court
History is replete with examples of Congress using its powers to leverage, nudge, and even threaten the Supreme Court. A big part of how we got to where we are is that Congress has stopped doing so.
