A couple of days before my 69th birthday I finally got round to climbing the long coveted An Ruadh Stac in the north-west. Great scramble, and even met a couple of the locals (in photo 3).

I’m looking for examples of walking used in protest or resistance in Scotland. I have the suffragette march in Edinburgh in 1909 and the hunger marches of the 1930s, but is there anything earlier? And what about later? All pointers gratefully received #BookSky #WalkingScotland

Finland had huge success in ending homelessness, but now that's going backward. Why? The answer is simple: a right wing government. The poor and middle getting poorer. Don't listen to Faragist lies: the truth has been demonstrated.

What makes a data centre green? Nothing. By its nature it requires massive amounts of power - no matter where it's sourced from - and emits massive amounts of heat no matter how the cooling is done. And we don't even need it. In fact its use is almost wholly pernicious.

Nobody knows how much energy AI data centres actually use, because no tech company is obliged to say. What surfaces does so by accident: Google’s annual energy consumption is up 38%, and court filings in Virginia projected water use of two to eight million gallons a day.

On days like Wednesday, said Nabeel Nawaz, the store manager of a Chaiiwala franchise in the centre of Slough, the heat is like something “pinching your body and burning your skin”. Come on ScotGov, this is unforgivable - and stupid! Funding for paths, etc, has always been part of the agricultural funding farmers could bid for, since 2005. It’s a tiny proportion of the overall farming budget. If land managers can’t get £££, why should they pay for this public good themselves? 😡
