I've seen people argue that it's because UK feminism emphasized women-only spaces, whereas that mostly died out in the US after the 70's. But I don't know enough to judge the accuracy of that claim.

Once again, everything is So Much Gender:
Witness one exchange where Richardson talks about then-acting Administrator Hamilton, a former Navy SEAL and 4-time combat veteran:

"Dude to dude… well, maybe not dude to dude. He's not really a dude. He strikes me as kind of chick-like, but he's still one of us."

These are the types of sentences Richardson wrote and then voluntarily put into his book.

At my undergrad, you had to go into the office and sign a form to see your grades. It was strongly discouraged, especially for the first year. Instead, we had narrative evaluations, much more helpful than a simple letter. The focus was on *how* you could improve, and there was no "perfect"

here is what i think: we're not consumers or spectators, we are participants with agency. you should not hope that democrats will do anything. you must work to force them to do the right thing. the odds are long, but we are far from the first americans to face long odds. we will win.

I'm increasingly hungry for media that was made with care and human attention. The genre doesn't matter, could be a campy monster film or a silly comedy, but I want intentional media. (And your newsletter is a lovely bright spot in my week! Thank you!)

I went to a "great books" college. The men mostly ranged from libertarians to future Orthodox monks. The women were almost all some kind of left wing. Dating was very weird. (But I wish everyone had the opportunity to read those books with the support of a community)

We are in a magical legal setting where we must have shutdowns because it would violate the Anti-Deficiency Act otherwise, but also the President can ignore the Anti-Deficiency Act to unilaterally fund favored agencies when he feels like it. Seems better to just give up on shutdowns altogether.
