Drone strikes spark major fire at Russian logistics hub in Luhansk
Late on September 24 and into the early hours of September 25, drones targeted the city of Luhansk, which is currently under Russian occupation. After a series of powerful explosions, a fire broke out at the Stroytsentr hypermarket at 124 Andriya Linyova Street, according to the monitoring Telegram channel Exilenova+ and the Russian independent outlet ASTRA, both of which published eyewitness videos.
Local monitoring channels had earlier warned of a drone threat. Videos circulating on social media captured gunfire, the buzzing sound of a drone, and an explosion.
According to preliminary reports from open-source intelligence channels, a shopping center in Luhansk being used by the Russian military as a shelter and logistics hub was hit in the attack. "Occupied Luhansk, the logistics hub of the Russian Armed Forces is burning. There are also reports of strikes at other locations," analysts wrote.
Some social media users also claimed that a logistics hub for Russian troops was located inside the hypermarket. Until 2014, the building housed an Epicentr hypermarket.
Footage shared online shows massive flames and thick black smoke rising from the site. Eyewitnesses reported that the fire was spreading and the building was already heavily damaged and could be completely destroyed.
Telegram channels affiliated with Russian occupation authorities suggested that drones may have struck a construction goods shopping center in Luhansk. Posts there also mentioned several fires breaking out near the facility, without specifying exactly what was burning. Residents were urged not to go outside and to keep windows and doors closed due to the intense fire.
At the time of publication, neither occupation authorities nor the Ukrainian military had confirmed a strike on a Russian Armed Forces logistics hub. The full extent of the damage and destruction remains unknown.
