Earlier this year Aussie motorists saw record petrol & diesel prices as conflict in the Middle East disrupted global fuel markets. This morning fuel retailer Ampol reported that its earnings in the first half of 2026 TRIPLED to A$1.39 billion and that the "market dislocation provided a benefit.”

Wanna see something cool? I just updated my chart showing Australia's total climate pollution, comparing our fossil fuel exports against our net emissions at home. Anyway it's a bit bleak.
Chart comparing emissions from Australia's fossil fuel exports with the country's net territorial emissions while in 2005, emissions from the two were roughly the same at around 650 million tonnes per year.

In 2026, emissions from exports are well over two times greater than emissions at home.

In case you missed it last week, half a million Aussie homes, or about 4% of the total, now have a home battery. That totals 14 GWH, comparing to the US' 9 GWH, where the population is 12x larger, according to Energy Minister Chris Bowen. www.bloomberg.com/news/article...

Big emitters are getting out of Australia’s Safeguard Mechanism unscathed, according to new analysis from BNEF. Emissions fell 2.1% in 2025, and 6.7m credits (SMCs) were issued. That added to an already large pool, and effectively kept prices muted.

The amount of cash pouring into renewable energy products has reached a new record high. $386 billion USD was invested during the first half of 2025 alone, a 10% jump from the same time last year, according to new data from BNEF. The boom is mainly being driven by fast, small-scale solar.
