The side of this Via Rail locomotive says "Un choix vert": the green choice. On the Montreal–Toronto run, it is: 55 kg of CO₂ per passenger by train, vs. 186 by plane. But ride The Canadian to Vancouver and you emit 1.6× more than if you'd flown. Here's why 👇 www.highspeed.blog/when-the-rai...

There's growing evidence the surge into Ceuta (🇪🇸PM Sanchez has called it an "attack") has, like in 2021, been orchestrated by the Moroccan government in retaliation for Sanchez visiting Algeria Yet it's Spain being criticised by European politicians, not Morocco. So much for solidarity.

About 60,000 migrants arrive in Ceuta in 24 hours, Spanish territory's leader says
The estimated number of arrivals is more than 70% of the population of the city, which is about 83,600.

We really need to stress how expensive it is to keep bailing out fossil fuel users! - In 2022-23 EU governments spent €540 billion on emergency measures to lower energy bills – most of which were untargeted measures to lower prices. - Looks like we may be headed down a similar road again.

New insight from @johnspringford.bsky.social and me. Second fossil fuel crisis in 5 years, and again due to a war someone else started - a bitter déjà vu for Europe. Governments be drawing the right lessons from the 2022-23 crisis, and design policy support accordingly.
