jburka @burkas.net · 01/10/2026I just biked past the reflecting pool. I could have told you it was still a story even without the relatively good news about the Olympian. 010
jburka @burkas.net · 30/09/2026Apparently they've got a friendly with DC United later today. So I guess the players are out putting on a dog and pony show? Strangely, this is something I have indirect experience with as a guest at international kite festivals -- traveling to elementary schools to work with kids. 111
jburka @burkas.net · 30/09/2026When the #Bundesliga makes an appearance at the elementary school on the next block. Cc: @popville 210
jburka @burkas.net · 27/09/2026Tonight, walking the dog around the block that’s so scary and dangerous during the day time that it needs to be patrolled by the National Guard (but never in the dark!) I passed three Lamborghinis and a McLaren parked on the street. What is even happening? 000
jburka @burkas.net · 25/09/2026See, I'd know it was something horrible because UPS never bothers ringing the doorbell. 010
jburka @burkas.net · 20/09/2026Ah, yes, DC is Safe and Beautiful now just like all the signs say. The administration wouldn’t gaslight me, would it? 121
jburka @burkas.net · 19/09/2026Guess we didn’t get a follow-up asking why something that was an “epic success” needs resolution. 100
jburka @burkas.net · 11/09/2026I've loved her since the early singles...but I wish she'd break out her intense timbre more often. "is there something in the movies" just about slays me. 121
jburka @burkas.net · 10/09/2026Eh, I already did that last week, when I moved a baby diamondback terrapin out of the walking/biking path in Ocean City’s Northside Park! 010
jburka @burkas.net · 06/09/2026When I first explained you to my husband it was pretty easy. But that was back in the days of the occasional slide of you looking pretty with some witty text about cyber apocalypse. 010
jburka @burkas.net · 06/09/2026I was at the 1995 Cranberries Riot at the Sylvan Theater by the Washington Monument. It was great for a song or so until the US Park Police pulled the plug. Not sure if Dolores ever got her guitar back. 020
jburka @burkas.net · 25/08/2026Guess it’s time to think like @jengolbeck.bsky.social, or at least see what @blairbraverman.bsky.social had to say to her! #uglydogs 0110
jburka @burkas.net · 25/08/2026Beautiful! The only Canty I have in the house is all of the work he did (end papers, illustrations, etc) on the ltd ed first printing of "The Talisman." It's one of my treasures. 010

jburka @burkas.net · 17/08/2026Stupid pattern recognition: I have developed a skill for spotting the vans the National Guard use to move around DC and I see them everywhere. 010
jburka @burkas.net · 17/08/2026As a follower from the very early days, I’m glad you stuck it out. It’s been a fun ride! 080
jburka @burkas.net · 14/08/2026I see no box! Has Fleem no feelings she needs to deeply feel today? 1210
jburka @burkas.net · 11/08/2026And you can get it it in a special launch package from #uglydogs fave Honest Dog Books! honestdogbooks.com/thinkhonestdogbooks.comHonest Dog BooksIndependent, locally owned, dog friendly bookstore with use and new books. 1213
jburka @burkas.net · 10/08/2026I enjoyed Beth the one time I saw her after "Trailer Park" came out but I'd still pick Tanya. Maybe I'm just still annoyed I missed the King 30th anniversary tour when it came through the area 110
jburka @burkas.net · 06/08/2026People with high T don’t need to wash their hands. The manliness just scares the dirt off. Duh. 070
jburka @burkas.net · 03/08/2026Can someone please explain how anybody taking advantage of this "service" shouldn't then be immediately charged with insider trading? I honestly don't understand this. 000
jburka @burkas.net · 30/07/2026Thanks to @ethereallad.bsky.social I was on the book basically as soon as it came out…and Hannah got to it much more quickly than the musical folks. No shade to that version — I just know it’s not meant for me. 020
jburka @burkas.net · 30/07/2026I’ve never seen the play or movie because (a) Hannah Fury’s song cycle on The Thing That Feels obviates the need for any other Wicked-based music and (b) from what I’ve read and been told, it’s not nearly dark enough. 110
jburka @burkas.net · 28/07/2026Maybe the thoroughly mediocre McConaughey/Elba "Dark Tower" would have been better if they'd actually tried to show us fear in a handful of dust. 130
jburka @burkas.net · 27/07/2026Y’know what would make that park beautiful? Not having soldiers “protecting” it. 010
jburka @burkas.net · 23/07/2026Unclear why the administration hasn't set up one of their banners proclaiming DC now "SAFE AND BEAUTIFUL" on the Monument grounds by 17th. On the plus side, I saw at least 6 national guard wandering along the fenced-off south side of the Reflecting Pool. Presumably they're keeping the fence safe. 000
jburka @burkas.net · 23/07/2026THE ALGAE HAS ESCAPED CONTAINMENT. Despite draining and fencing off the Reflecting Pool, the algae has managed to cross 17th Street and is growing in the mess of puddles and dirt where green grass flourished before the buildout for 7/4/26. 030
jburka @burkas.net · 15/07/2026My husband keeps complaining about a lack of vegetables when we visited Ireland last month, and I have to keep reminding him that potatoes are vegetables. 020

jburka @burkas.net · 05/07/2026Couldn’t bike into Anacostia Park yesterday due to 250 closures. Biking up the other side of the Anacostia, could see the entire park was closed. Some real Robert Moses shit, closing off the park where the Black families party. 001
jburka @burkas.net · 03/07/2026July 3rd babies, too -- they've been at it since 10:15 this morning and it's awful on the ground here...even inside the house. 100
jburka @burkas.net · 27/06/2026Gotta love showing up for the hotel breakfast in Ennis, IE and they’re playing the album “The Celts”, Enya’s debut. 010
jburka @burkas.net · 24/06/2026Now the streets are crawling with troops and the grift is endless. I see “we’re making DC safe and beautiful” signs everywhere while tacky crap gets installed and previously illegal high speed pursuits lead to deaths. It’s not the future I expected 50 years ago. Sigh. 110
jburka @burkas.net · 24/06/2026I was 7 and living in DC. We sat, as we did most years, on the Lincoln steps to watch the fireworks. And the traffic to get back home made it take hours. But there was a totally cool laser firing from the Washington Monument and the future looked bright. 110
jburka @burkas.net · 23/06/2026It’s gorgeous in Galway! Dublin was a bit toasty when we left in late morning. 110
jburka @burkas.net · 19/06/2026<stephon-voice> check out DC’s hottest new club. It’s got people in uniforms, swamp water, sheets of American Flag Blue, and an endless supply of tourists gawking! 000

jburka @burkas.net · 11/06/2026realized yesterday that I have to drive from mid-city dc to alexandria during the ufc shitshow. haven't figured this one out yet. <sigh> 200
jburka @burkas.net · 05/06/2026I missed the Strange Angels tour in Bloomington in ‘91 because I had to come home in a random weekend for my sister’s bat mitzvah. 000
