My semi-educated guess is that it's smoke from a failed attempt at afterburner ignition, when raw fuel is dumped into a very hot jet engine right behind the turbines. The vertical look is almost certainly an optical illusion.

The beard stuff is just so stupid. I wasn't in that community, but still ran across them occasionally. 45 years ago they were so freaking squeaky clean we called them high-tech low-drag [redacted]. And beard waivers for bumps were super common then.

I got radicalized on it probably 30 years ago during a first aid class when I saw a photograph of a seven-year-old with a fist sized chunk of meat missing out of the side of his face and only one eyeball to his name. Done by the family dog.

I'm freaking addicted to those episodes. Sometimes I'm even right on my guess. 😁

It's pretty rare for me to have to do it since I retired, but my go to responses were usually "what do you mean by that?" and "what was that? I didn't hear you." They get the point really fast when you make them repeat what they said.

I saw a clip a few days ago about a woman somewhere in Arizona talking about teens running through a neighborhood doing this, but they're wearing dark clothing and black facemasks. I'm really surprised it hasn't ended with a fatality or two.

Entirely possible that people like that will still vote, because they may not vote for a particular Republican, but they will *never* vote for any democrat. My biggest concern is that some non-R voters will also stay home because they will think that everything is in the bag.

My favorite hill coaster that I ever built was an ironing board with pencil rod axles and 10 speed wheels, with the board elevated as high as it could go. Getting lined up with the center of the road was critical. Having my sister be a reliable judge of cross traffic speed was pretty important too.
