Old ladies immediately arrested and imprisoned for holding up signs to protest the deaths of tens of thousands of innocent civilians. Far right thug uses what looks like an illegal knife to slash a boat, endangering a life. And here I am many hours later waiting for any kind of police action.

Worrying scenes in the Channel today, for all interested in asylum policy and maritime tactics. A small boat from Normandy spent more than 30 hours at sea. Those on board now on their 2nd rescue vessel as Border Force forced to play cat and mouse with far-right activists who have their own boat.

The sheer contempt for colleagues and people revealed by one institution after another is breathtaking. I have close friends have been through this, and it takes a profound toll that can take years to undo even after resolution or leaving the sector. Wishing everyone better ahead.

There is no real way to train a historian without having students immerse themselves (repeat THEMSELVES) in the material. Its what sparks that interest in the first place! Its when they have their baby eureka moments, and begin to form connections and think historically. gAI is poison for all that.
