@edzitron.com im trying to put together sources and info to fight some Cloverleaf shit here in Madison. Is there a better way to search your newsletters than just clicking on each of them and ctrl+F? The gist is Public Service Commission sets the rates that utilities are allowed to charge.

Fidelity’s Director of Global Macro saying that the AI trade has been “dead money” for three months, and that it’s inflationary, meaning (as I’ve discussed multiple times) that the more debt they raise the more expensive debt becomes and the more they build data centers the more expensive it gets

On the Al front, the trade has been dead money for more than 3 months now. The metrics I am following (token expenditures and GPU lease rates) are all flat to down. The price of memory (DRAM) seems to be the only thing that is still going up.

Yes, Al will change our lives (for the better l trust) and down the road it may well unleash a productivity miracle that raises the economy's non-inflationary speed limit enough to keep the world's mounting debt burden sustainable. But until then the buildout is inflationary with an unknown return for the companies who are investing trillions into compute. The demand fo capital (equity and debt) from corporates is rising at a $3.3 trillion clip.

The Expanse. It's bold to claim that it exceeds the books but it's really something special (especially the audiobooks, Jefferson Mays is utterly incredible and genuinely influenced the show's casting imo) and if you watch it, at the end of season 3 realize SyFy cancelled it on that cliffhanger.

I know it’s a big ask, but everyone needs to watch more interviews and panels with CEOs. They are so disturbing and repellent but to really face the reality of not only the fact we’re in a class war but the nature of who it is we’re battling, and the future they are authoring, is essential.

Personal
Superintelligence
Over the last few months we have begun to see glimpses of our Al systems improving themselves. The improvement is slow for now, but undeniable.
Developing superintelligence is now in sight.
It seems clear that in the coming years, Al will improve all our existing systems and enable the creation and discovery of new things that aren't imaginable today. But it is an open question what we will direct superintelligence towards.
In some ways this will be a new era for humanity, but in others it's just a continuation of historical trends. As recently as 200 years ago, 90% of people were farmers growing food to survive. Advances in technology have steadily freed much of humanity to focus less on subsistence and more on the pursuits we choose. At each step, people have used our newfound productivity to achieve more than was previously possible, pushing the frontiers of science and health, as well as spending more time on creativity, culture, relationships, and enjoying life.In an internal memo, senior executive Naomi Gleit said the new organization, called Enterprise Solutions, will be made up of product managers who lead customer engagements, data engineers who prepare client data for use in Meta's AI systems, and software engineers who integrate Meta's tools directly into the systems customers use to run their operations. The move follows similar efforts by Google and others to employ technical consultants, often called forward-deployed engineers, to customize Al for business clients.

Anthropic and OpenAI account for 50% of Microsoft, Google and Amazon’s revenues, and OpenAI’s ability to pay as much as $70 billion a year represents a mortal contract with Oracle. OpenAI and Anthropic will both - can’t just be one of them! - need to be at $200bn/yr by 2030. They cannot slow down.

We are going to win! This stuff can and will be brought to a halt. None of it is inevitable. Anthropic cannot afford to slow down. It has to grow to at least $100bn a year in revenue or it doesn’t have a hope in hell of paying its compute bills. Same for clammy little Altman.

Generative Al was purpose-built to grift an economy run by executives and managers who don't actually do any work. Its success has been driven by a remarkable, society-wide ignorance in the management sect, and its continued proliferation is only possible through the media's continued trust and faith in the idea that CEOs are
busy because they're actually doing work.
Yet even a Business Idiot eventually realizes that too much money is being spent, and the first one of these dimwits to cut their token budget will send the rest of them running for the doors.
We should lock them. We should make everybody who obsessed over theoretical ideas about what Al
can or will do ashamed for their intellectual deceit or constant ignorance.
