I was absolutely screaming at the TV like a crazy person

I will say the last hour of the BSG finale was the most cringe thing of all to me, because as a SF nerd I know that "the planet the explorers find is actually prehistoric earth or Eden really, they are the first humans wow" was already a cliché in the early 60s, one pulp mags would reject on sight

But for me it felt like a bait and switch that they did when they realized that you can't improvise a complex long term plot.

So imo the finale was confirmation that what viewers had been suspecting for two seasons was true: they'd quite literally lost the plot, or more realistically, never had it. Of course, if you enjoy the more different vibe and themes of 5 and 6, that's fine, and the finale fits with that.

...mysteries, then suddenly pivoted to a very different spiritual/religious concept, seemingly because the writers realized they'd written themselves into plot corners there was no way out of. It felt like handwaving with the religious stuff as an easy out, very much like Galactica in fact

That's unfair - the last two seasons of that show and the finale are very perplexing. I don't put all the weight on the finale per se; it fits fine with seasons five and six. The issue a lot of people had, which i think is fair, is that the show spent four seasons presenting itself as a show about

Yes. Got into the thread to say this. But here's the thing. If you just watch Galactica and stop at 2.5 you've got a good show that's missing an ending. Lost was so built around mystery that there's no clean stopping place. I can't even really rewatch it bc the mysteries make my eyes roll now

"Relational" is a new dog whistle for me so I'm glad to learn that today. I'll be on the lookout. Classic fake-reasonable semantic ploy

This is what I mean about imposter syndrome. Quaker is over here pushing a narrative that its customers are going to have a conversation about oatmeal on twitter and you think it's annoying to repost your art more than once.

The timing on that peak is so tricky that the few times they nail it, it's got just crazy energy. 9.18 is the most perfect version of that jam I've ever heard and that era is my all time fav Jerry tone by miles and miles

I have always been fascinated by how clearly the lyrics are addressing something specific in a meaningful way but it's so cryptic you can't put your finger on it. And musically it's totally bizarre. That version i linked has a unique swing feel at the start that's mind blowing

I love this weird old song so much! One of my favorite versions is this unique one coming out of a liquid gold NFA jam. The Attics here is also one of the finest live versions you'll find The late 1970 St Stephens are all outrageous, check out both 9.18 and 9.19.70 🔥🔥🔥🔥 youtu.be/PVYv0Tt4KgQ?...

Don't separate the digital collections for instance. Jerry shows and dead shows are interspersed in chronological order because that's how it happened and was experienced But I do get preferring the Jerry stuff yes. It's the pure beam

Mr. Completely @brokensymmetry.art · 9h
In 1991 I certainly started enjoying attending and listening to contemporary Jerry shows more than the dead. And then I had a period of being focused much more on learning the side project canon and listening to more of that. Now it's about even and I view it all as parts of the same thing

This also encourages a pay it forward gift mentality that I think is one of the highest expressions of community. Not that everyone who sees this will start a zine. But people might be inspired to put energy into something creative and give that time away for free. Could be anything

here's your answer: i like doing it. do your hobbies turn a profit? if so, that's cool. but i'm not looking for another job. "but printing and postage cost money" uh huh. so you don't spend money on hobbies? are all of your hobbies completely free?

so I put out my first zine this summer and I'm getting ready to print the second issue this month. while the response to it has been pretty good and positive, i'm still getting a lot of questions from social media followers about... why?

Mr. Completely @brokensymmetry.art · 9h
Well...yeah. they're pretty famously a spicy group and a tough hang. Seems like they've more or less embraced that and owned it. Like yeah we're some salty bitches ok? Deal or don't

Mr. Completely @brokensymmetry.art · 10h
Like whatever the thing is that's valued in that group, people feel pressure to be the most extra at whatever that is, far past the point it's fun or healthy Same kind of social dynamic that pushes political opinion towards radical fringes bc the most extreme person comes off as the coolest

Mr. Completely @brokensymmetry.art · 10h
It's more an idiocy of crowds thing and the way social pressure pushes people towards extremes

My first ever critique of LLMs, before I had really processed all the context around it, was back when I was managing a big software dev team and a mid level engineer spun up some code with one and we ran it through the test suite More red flags than May 1st in Tianenmen

Mr. Completely @brokensymmetry.art · 10h
Yeah he addressed it in a heartfelt if vague IG vid and then I heard the dude got hit with an exclusion. But not sure that second part is true, I'm not heavily involved in that scene. Or any scene. I'm actually pretty anti scene at this point lol

Bands issuing and enforcing 86s could clean up a lot of shit with a quickness. Not everything. But a lot of things.

Ah I'm not sure where there's a good summary One of the main character zeros/rail rats on Billy tour was outed as a longtime creeper/abuser with awful details. I heard unconfirmed reports he was 86d by band management. He's got defenders in the rat crew and the aftershocks are still playing out

I last enjoyed SCI in 1997 and have actively disliked them since about 2001, I love Jerry but I've seen him so often that he's not a draw for me. There are a handful of young grassy bands on there that interest me but aren't quite a draw behind mids headliners like that. Bronwyn is great.

Oh lordy it's the worst one, actually dark and fucked up not just stupid teen drama

Mr. Completely @brokensymmetry.art · 11h
Same, really the only strong draw on there for my taste

Mr. Completely @brokensymmetry.art · 11h
Yeah for me the only draws are in the middle and at the bottom
020
Mr. Completely @brokensymmetry.art · 11h
I think 1a is phish, 1b is Billy and 2 is bisco, but i rank tiers based on draw with a bit of a seniority/ respect bonus for some acts

Saw two of the best shows of my life in Richmond under genuinely horrible conditions, one of those ultra intense vortex experiences where the shows are gonna be either awful or transcendent and fortunately it went the right way Cop riot, busts on the floor, grotesque freakouts, brutal weather etc
