The 90s were the apotheosis of this design approach but let's not forget the pioneers of the 80s, who may have given us the highest form of the art in 1985

Been a weird weather year in the Portland area, not all in a bad way but just a bit off schedule and wonky. But mid October is when the rain is supposed to start settling in a bit and here we go

The shows I saw there in 88 were just okay as shows go but the vibe was everything.

I got so frustrated that the Q Trumpet meme template, shown in action in the first image, never caught on that i made the absurdly convoluted meta meme in the second image - I stand behind both and the entire concept. I know the right side of history when I see it
Q blasts the trumpet of JUSTIFIED BUT RELENTLESS GIZZARD HYPE at annoyed/grumpy Picard as FANS OF LITERALLY EVERY OTHER BAND and the blank faced Riker as EXTREMELY CONFUSED BYSTANDERS An absurdly complex meme riff on the Distracted Boyfriend meme with the Q Trumpet meme (labeled "this newer, hotter meme") in the red dress spot (with You as the boyfriend and This Old Meme as the ignored girlfriend). The inset meme shows Q as Me, Picard as Haters and Riker as People That Don't Get It - which was, tragically, basically everyone)

#NationalPoetryDay huh? Here are two by Robert Hunter. The first is from a collection called Infinity Minus Eleven issued as Spike Magazine issue 3. The second is from a private collection called Scattered Elegies; it's not the same thing as the more familiar poem he wrote for Garcia's funeral
The poem "Earth Remembers". It's a fair bit of text but if you can't read the image and want to, reply and I'll gladly type it upThe poem "Last Words for Jerry Garcia". It's a fair bit of text but if you can't read the image and want to, reply and I'll gladly type it up

I like to switch back and forth between a few things so I have something for every mood First pic is the current stack. Second pic is next up. Details and thoughts in alt text.
Current reading:
Sentinel by Robert Hunter (poetry, first reading) - just started.

Against The Day by Thomas Pynchon (novel, second reading). Superb. One of his finest. Radically political, layered, complex.

Girl Genius Book 11 - Agatha Heterodyne and the Hammerless Bell by Phil and Kaja Foglio (comic, reread). One of most thrilling, creative, fun and complexly plotted works I've ever read, dressed up as a YAish steampunk action/comedy/romance fantasyNext up:
Changing Planes by Ursula K LeGuin (short stories, first reading)

Silver Snarling Trumpet by Robert Hunter (memoir, second reading) - i rushed through a library copy of this last year, looking forward to spending time with it

Alleys of the Heart - Robert M Petersen (poetry, first reading) - the guywho wrote Unbroken Chain etc, Phil's friend, Oregon guy, famously hard living poet)

Attended some outstanding events celebrating and discussing the work of Robert Hunter, particularly his poetry and prose. Was blessed to receive these gems. The books are quite hard to find now. Biggest gem of the weekend was some genuine hang time with @bourgwick.bsky.social
3 books of poetry, by Hunter and Bobby Petersen, and a broadsheet with a Hunter interview

Hey super long shot but anyone who works in screen printing or shirtmaking recognize this company logo? I'm looking to buy blanks of this exact purple ringer tee.
The shirt is a very Prince or Minnesota Vikings medium purple with whiteand gold accents. The tag shows a white M on a red rectangle and a black bar horizontally over the middle with another word printed on it
