It's book quote Wednesday. Today the word is "push", and we're back with Nik Thorn in his least-favourite and yet somehow also favourite bar. From Nectar for the God. #bookQW books2read.com/NectarGod
Promo image for Nectar for the God by Patrick Samphire, showing the cover of the book and the accompanying text:

I made my way down the steps, pushed the door open, and stumbled into the poorly-lit interior. To say Dumonoc was cheap was like saying that a volcano was warm; it wasn’t wrong, but it didn’t exactly capture the essence of the situation. The interior was almost entirely dark, other than the bar and a couple of flickering candles at shadowed tables, and Dumonoc didn’t provide those. If you wanted light, you brought your own. Most people didn’t bother. Probably so they wouldn’t have to see what was floating in the beer.

Still overdrawn by about $100. This is going to snowball by the end of the day if I don’t get at least $60 in my account. Can you help? I know I’m an absolute fuck up, but I am so scared that this is going to spiral out of control to where I can’t recover. #MutualAid #urgent

Only 8 more days until A Waltz of Sinister Import will complete The Supernatural Adventures of Lady & Lord Riven! If you haven't read the 1st 2 cozy-spooky romantasy novellas yet, grab them in ebook & paperback now. Start with A Marriage of Undead Inconvenience: books2read.com/undeadInconvenience
The cover of A Marriage of Undead Inconvenience shows an ominously closed entrance-gate at the top of the cover and a bat with its wings outspread. Beside it is this text: Growling, Margaret turned to her much larger husband. “Are you strong enough to break this door down?”
He shrugged. “Perhaps, but I wouldn’t be able to enter the house afterwards. If you recall, I am held under a code.”
“Ugh.” Of course. As per the Bosworth Accords, vampires were not allowed to enter any mortal residence without an invitation. “I could invite you once I was inside,” Margaret pointed out.
Lord Riven looked pained. “That might suffice—with an extraordinarily lenient judge—but have you considered trying a tediously obvious strategy first?” As she gazed back at him in confusion, his lips quirked. “Here.” Stepping up to her side, he rapped on the door, producing two loud, authoritative knocks.
Footsteps sounded from within a moment later, and Lord Riven smiled down at her with disconcerting tenderness. “You see? I do have some uses after all.”

I have the completely random urge to mention that many years ago, an interview conducted by my local paper with this chap included a mention of him keeping the Holy Grail safe in his airing cupboard.
A photograph from the Somerset Live website of Arthur Uther Pendragon, a British eco-campaigner, Neo-Druid leader, media personality, and self-declared reincarnation of King Arthur, a name by which he is also known, conducting a ceremony at Stonehenge.

Originally born John Rothwell, he also served in the British Army and founded a biker club before deciding he was King Arthur Pendragon reborn, but I'm not sure if the sword he's using in this particular ceremony is the one he calls Excalibur that he bought in a shop in Farnborough from someone who claimed it'd been used in the movie of the same name.

I remember reading an article about the death penalty years ago that highlighted that when West Germany abolished the death penalty, popular support for the penalty was over 70%. A generation later, support for the death penalty was below 30%.

I've always been very fond of Batman Returns. I saw it just after I'd started working part-time, on the first holiday I ever paid for myself. It was a tiny cinema in Somerset, and it smelled a bit like there was a dead horse in the back row, but I adored the movie.

For something I sketched out a vague shape for and then built in one go in a couple of hours one evening where I really needed to decompress, I'm pretty happy with it. If you made it to the bottom of this thread, please feel free to have a biscuit. Or swoosh a Lego spaceship around for a bit.

I also have this feeling that the body itself is a bit too monotone blue, but I'm not sure what to do about that yet. There's a Lego brick printing service here in the UK I'm tempted to try, to see if I can get a serial number brick printed with a number on it like the LL 918 on the other ship.

It's not "complete" complete - it uses black supports rather than light gray underneath, for example. That's because I'm out of light gray supports and they cost about £2.50 each if you can find them, and I had black ones going spare. I don't know what to put in the cargo space yet.

I've had this sculling around my desk and on top of the freezer, and when I decided to free build a spaceship, I started with the idea of taking the Space Transport and building a larger version, intended to transport more/larger cargo, but also more tools/supplies for longer trips.

BrokenMnemonic @brokenmnemonic.bsky.social · 07/09/2026
I recently completed this from spare parts I purchased online or found while rummaging through parts bins at Brick Festivals. This is 918-1 - Space Transport, the first Space ship set of the Space theme to be released by Lego, in 1979.
A rear left three-quarter view of Lego set 918-1 - Space Transport from 1979. A small space ship approximately 22 studs long, this is also in the classic light gray and blue style, with a fixed trans-yellow cockpit and a trans-yellow plate on a hinge that opens up behind the cockpit to let you see the red space figure inside. The spaceship has a single large conical engine and a light gray tailplane, plus some small trans-red and trans-green 1x1 plates for highlighting. There is a very small rear compartment at the back accessed via two 1x3 light gray doors.

Things have been a bit stressful the last 3 weeks in ways I can't do much about, so I've been buying old expensive bits of Lego to complete Space sets from the 70s-80s with. I decided I should stop for a bit and build something with all the extra spares I'd picked up, and this was the result.
Front left view photo looking slightly down on a spaceship made out of Lego, using the predominantly light gray and blue scheme from various classic Lego Space sets. The sloped cockpit is trans yellow, and there are highlights on the model consisting of some black and yellow short strikes on the wings, a Space logo on part of the nose, some blue arrows on tiles, and some small trans-green and trans red parts for emphasis. The spaceship is cross-shaped, with the central point of the cross roughly a third of the way down from the back of the ship. It has a single large conical engine at the back and smaller nacelle-type engines under each wing. The main body of the ship is blue, with a light gray roof, tailplane, engines and wings. The same Lego spaceship photographed square-on from the left hand side, showing the cockpit opened up to display a yellow space figure inside, as well as an open blue storage bin and container door built into the side of the main body, and an open, elevated light grey hatch on the top of the ship body.Front right view photo looking slightly down on a spaceship made out of Lego, using the predominantly light gray and blue scheme from various classic Lego Space sets. Well my local Labour MP has a new email waiting for them.
Masked Thugs on the Street

Dear NAME

While I was appalled to see the masked thugs of Stephen Yaxley Lennon block roads in Dover and Portsmouth over the weekend, I was even more appalled to see the government completely failing to react. At an Insulate Britain protest in Dover in 2021, 39 out of 40 protestors were arrested. (https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2021/sep/24/port-of-dover-blocked-by-insulate-britain-activists) That happened with the same police force, using softer legal powers. On Saturday, nothing. There is also no evidence of any follow-up, and the same thugs were free to proceed to Portsmouth and wreak havoc there. The government failed to do anything about this, presumably has zero insight into the existence and plans of this new Sturmabteilung, and the statements over the weekend and today were quite frankly pathetic and not at all up to the challenge to government legitimacy that this group poses. Relatedly, it appears that on Sunday night in Glasgow, social-media driven lies were behind an arson attack on a new housing project. https://www.thenational.scot/news/26526674.far-right-celebrate-wilful-glasgow-tenement-fire/

It is beginning to feel a bit 1932 right now.

Is there any plan for the government to stop conflating these thugs with peaceful (if disruptive) protestors, to stop jabbering on about 'legitimate concerns’ and to do something (anything really) about X, Meta and TikTok being channels for this hate and organisation for violence? Or is Labour just going to sit there and see it all going the same way as Germany?

With kind regards

The suggestion the tapestry was made at Wilton Abbey is interesting, particularly given that Wilton was the capital of Wessex when it was a kingdom.
