Honestly if you haven’t watched the full answer, do it. It’s even better than what was clipped here. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a question that’s loaded on three levels handled like this ever in politics.

I’m watching the Georgia debate now, and I know we all know he’s been the best candidate of the three, but also this is the best campaign and messaging by a mile. Helps that he also has by far the weakest opponent of the three.

Both of these races have some strong candidate-quality overtones. I’d feel a lot better if the GOP candidates were flipped here because Ossoff would beat them both handily, but he also got the weaker opponent.

I’m a realist and an optimist, and I think we can win every swing race and then some in this environment. I want all the seats! I also think there are three races I feel better about in states that Trump won by ten points, and these should have been the easy ones.

As for Maine, well, let me just say again that I hate Graham Platner and every single person who brought us Graham Platner and who also decided who absolutely must replace him because of his movement or whatever.

Like, my guy, you are trying to earn back the trust of Jewish voters and also combatting “he’s a scary Muslim” attacks that included an inability to condemn the IRGC, and this fuels both of those issues.

This was a layup turned into an own goal, for example.
New York Post headline:

El-Sayed refuses to say whether Iran is more of a threat than Israel in stunning Michigan Senate debate moment

The problem with left populists is they refuse to give any answer that might piss off the most online left populists to a fault.

Michigan is probably a draw at best, but Rogers definitely got some fuel for some ads that will hit. Maine is just making me hate Graham Platner even more for this particular mess.

I know we just live for the clips and what goes viral here, but just watched the Michigan Senate debate and now starting the Maine debate trying to focus on the perspective of an undecided voter. Not really loving either of them tbh.

The first question I’ve asked friends who ask if they should see Digger has been, did you like Birdman? Both take big swings and trust the audience to be grownups. Loved them both.

It is going to be a long month to November, a longer winter to January, and a very long road to 2029. Only way out is through, the way through is out.

We’re going to get a million bad post-election takes that don’t take into account that it’s a D+8 environment and that 2028 will almost certainly not be.

I need many of you to realize that Congressional leadership is often not actually speaking to you specifically, and that’s fine Jeffries’s job right now is to avoid giving Ken Paxton good soundbites

I get why she’s setting up this narrative, but the three Bernie-endorsed candidates in swing Senate races (AES, Flanagan, Jackson) are the three *most* underperforming relative to Trump’s 2024 vote. Two of those aren’t even flips, and one was thought to be the easiest one to flip.

This is wrong. Dead wrong. AES is likely to win, but he is going to be an underperformer. To make "fuck it, let's be legends" as the takeaway from that would be a huge mistake.

Ocasio-Cortez Says, ‘If Abdul Can Win in Michigan, Anybody Can Win Anywhere’

I think it’s bad, actually, that a complex and decades-old conflict got boiled down for a lot of young people by actively engaging with straight propaganda from one side, mostly on Twitter and TikTok. I’m not really sure there’s a path out for them when no one would dare call that out.

Reminder that the essential goal of the attacks of October 7 was provoking Israeli retaliation while hiding behind civilians hoping to trigger a regional war. You cannot truly be pro-Palestinian and pro-Hamas. They set back the cause of a Palestinian state decades on that day.

Whew, I think the whole movement has missed about two years of “it’s too far” with no one ever calling out any red lines here. Once they decided Hamas was based and we shouldn’t criticize their methods of resistance, it stopped being about Palestinian lives at all.

They seemed briefly humbled by the fact that his primary win was only by a point after believing polling that had him up double digits. Now he seems to be more intent on proving that left populism can win in a swing state, and I don’t think him winning supports that at all in this environment.

I wish I saw more signs that El-Sayed or his campaign understand he’s in a close race and not just declaring he’s going to win by 7 points when a quality poll this week had him up by one.

That's funny, I don't recall the Mayor tacking on a condemnation of the U.S. invasion of Afghanistan/Iraq onto his post about the anniversary of 9/11, much less one three times longer than the initial statement.

It’s not normal or appropriate that the mayor of a U.S. city who won with just over 50 percent of the vote treats the office as a soapbox for his takes on foreign policy, and the fact that apparently his staff thinks it is tells you about who he’s surrounded by.

I think people have taken his appearance with Harris and now with Obama to mean he’s shifted, when actually it’s that the dreaded “establishment” is doing everything it can to help him win, because they want to win.

The irony here is that El-Sayed has actually not pivoted to the center. He’s still actively focused on the left far too much in his general campaign, and it’s making that race closer than it should be.
130
The discourse is broken @brokendiscourse.bsky.social · 06/10/2026
This is why the “left” as it exists online is actually not an important voting bloc in general elections. This is mostly posturing, but they always do this when it actually matters.

And you see the clouds of the next round of “I don’t care if I can’t count, I want to complain about Dems more” with impeachment demands. Everyone also thinks that court packing and adding a couple of states to the union is somehow a political layup, and they don’t even have a majority yet.

Just imagine what this current electoral climate would be like if people didn’t spend the last two years online loudly complaining that Democrats should “do something” with magical powers that voters didn’t grant them.

Who among us can really say who is the sitting senator in this race though? Honestly it’s almost impressive that the Husted campaign is trying to grab some “throw these bums out” energy.

I’d often wondered if Tom Morello ever regretted that Rage Against the Machine played a pop-up protest set at the *DNC* in 2000 given the close results and outcome of that election, but I guess he’s still clinging to his “both sides” brand, and this is so disappointing.
Did you vote for Kamala?
I certainly did not.
You did not?
Did not. I couldn't do it.
I didn't realize that.
V for Vendetta - that one inch of who you are belongsto you, and they can't have it.
Now, Ilive in a state where it may not have moved the meter, but I just couldn't do it.
Couldn't do it.
When's the last time that you didn't vote for the Democratic candidate?
Can't remember the last time I did.
Wow, okay. I thought you were softening a little bit.
Can't remember the last time I did.
So I would say this is a point of disagreement with Bruce Springsteen!
I think he is doing the right thing, how his political and personal barometer leads him and so am I, and I respect that, and I think that he respects my point of view.

For example, the internet loves the guy who says “Medicare for All” over and over and is actually running a universal healthcare plan that’s closer to Pete Buttigieg than Bernie Sanders. They like him because he says the slogan.

I really wish we’d stop pointing to polling on slogans and pretending they are actually policy positions and actually Democrats are just out-of-touch with voters because they just like losing elections. Allegedly serious people do this all the time here.

If we could figure out some quality or feature that was common to all the states where this happened or, conversely, common to all the states where this did not happen, that might help suggest a strategy to correct and/or prevent this
