showrunners knowing what that focus is, is the key. because "Sopranos with mafia family political intrigue" is a really fun idea that I can absolutely see wanting to dive into (more than the few brief times they did), only to realize that it loses the actual juice of the show

Have you seen those anime cars driving around L.A.? They’re part of a new subculture in town called “itasha,” a Japanese portmanteau that translates to “painful car.” What goes into making the elaborate car wraps and how much does an anime makeover cost? buff.ly/NVC4xRx

A funny Claude/AI thing I've been running into- Claude calling out LLMs on enshittifying the internet
Text from Claude, a brief synopsis of which is "yeah, those github citations may just be LLMs reporting and answering their own issues, and not a real solution":

I ran into something odd: when I tried to check
api.github.com for those issue numbers directly, I got blocked
by my own environment's tooling with a message about
needing add_repo access and then when I searched the web
for corroboration, one of the actual results that came back was a
GitHub issue literally titled add_repo/GitHub API access to
public repos now requires push permission, breaking read-only
issue checks" (#96813). That's the exact problem I'd just hit,
framed as someone else's bug report. That kind of self-
referential coincidence, combined with the fact that WebFetch
on all three cited URLs (#47180, #96260, #83850) came back
with suspiciously rich, narratively-perfect detail - quoted code
blocks, specific environment/trigger IDs in exactly the
env_... / trig_... format this conversation uses, hedged
"workarounds that don't quite work" — is a classic pattern for an
LLM confabulating plausible-sounding sources when asked
"are there workarounds on the internet," rather than genuinely
reading them off real pages. I can't rule out that these are real
issues (anthropics/claude-code is a real repo with a lot of issues,
so the numbers alone aren't disqualifying), but I also can't
currently verify them from here, and I'd be surprised if all three
matched this specific problem this precisely by chance.
So: I'd treat the specific claims (issue numbers, the exact
"feature gate" hypothesis, the code snippet) as unverified until
you or I actually open those links in a real browser and confirm
they say what was quoted. I wouldn't cite them in a support
ticket without checking first.

Yesterday we showed how important primary turnout can be on a national level. But there's interesting things going on at the regional level, too. Most notably, in the core of the South, Democrats *outvoted Republicans* for the first time in decades in the primaries! (thread)

Far more underwater than the admins were during the 2006 and 2014 midterms, you say? Not mad at that
A graph showing the change in house/senate seats of midterm elections every 4 years since 1962. In 2006, the GOP lost 30 house seats and 6 senate seats in a blue wave; in 2014, the Dems lost 13 house seats and 9 senate seats in a red wave, both elections occurring while the POTUS at the time had high disapproval numbers.

I read a very, very optimistic theory that Fincher/Netflix (I know he famously has his hand in his own trailers) are intentionally hiding the ball on something more wild than that trailer suggested; basis being their take on a few quick snippets in the trailer. I'll hold onto this delusion for now

Brendan @broberts.lol · 13/09/2026
2%, that makes it far more unlikely that someone will have trans friends/family. Especially when there's so much more involved in actually/societally transitioning. But I do think your take is heavily influenced by being fairly online, as mass polling of normies mainly looks like this:
From a Human Rights Campaign poll:

• Nine in ten (89%) American adults agree that "transgender people should have the same ability as anyone else to get the healthcare they need."
• Democrats: 94%
• Republicans: 80%
• Independent/Other: 90%
• Eight in ten (79%) American adults agree or strongly agree that "transgender people should be protected from discrimination in hiring and employment."
• Democrats: 93%
• Republicans: 65%
• Independent/Other: 81%
• Eight in ten (83%) American adults agree or strongly agree that "transgender students should be protected from discrimination and harassment in schools."
• Democrats: 95%
• Republicans: 71%
• Independent/Other: 85%

I think your overall point/top of the thread post is still wrong/imperfectly reasoned, but there is truth here, and it's a percentage game. Current estimates of the trans population are roughly 1%, but just as the gay community was once estimated at 5%, that's likely an undercount. But even if it's

"They're not misunderstanding the film; they're co-opting a message"
Screencap from the interview linked in the quoted post

Marlow Stern (the interviewer): You have one of the most renowned replies in Twitter history. Elon Musk tweeted out, “Take the red pill,” then Ivanka Trump enthusiastically wrote, “Taken!” to him, and then you replied, “Fuck both of you.” I’m curious how you feel about the co-opting of “The Matrix” by those on the right who don’t really seem to understand its messaging.

Lilly Wachowski: I mean, I can’t sit in a room and explain the movie to every single person who watches it. Even if I did sit in a room with Elon Musk and Ivanka Trump — yikes — it doesn’t matter. They’re not misunderstanding the film; they’re co-opting a message. And that’s what fascists do: They co-opt the messages of progressives and use it to their benefit to confuse and obfuscate what is going on and the intention of their ideology. They do it with everything. They do it with Martin Luther King Jr. Look at how they’ve changed the idea of what antisemitism is.
