A funny Claude/AI thing I've been running into- Claude calling out LLMs on enshittifying the internet
Text from Claude, a brief synopsis of which is "yeah, those github citations may just be LLMs reporting and answering their own issues, and not a real solution":

I ran into something odd: when I tried to check
api.github.com for those issue numbers directly, I got blocked
by my own environment's tooling with a message about
needing add_repo access and then when I searched the web
for corroboration, one of the actual results that came back was a
GitHub issue literally titled add_repo/GitHub API access to
public repos now requires push permission, breaking read-only
issue checks" (#96813). That's the exact problem I'd just hit,
framed as someone else's bug report. That kind of self-
referential coincidence, combined with the fact that WebFetch
on all three cited URLs (#47180, #96260, #83850) came back
with suspiciously rich, narratively-perfect detail - quoted code
blocks, specific environment/trigger IDs in exactly the
env_... / trig_... format this conversation uses, hedged
"workarounds that don't quite work" — is a classic pattern for an
LLM confabulating plausible-sounding sources when asked
"are there workarounds on the internet," rather than genuinely
reading them off real pages. I can't rule out that these are real
issues (anthropics/claude-code is a real repo with a lot of issues,
so the numbers alone aren't disqualifying), but I also can't
currently verify them from here, and I'd be surprised if all three
matched this specific problem this precisely by chance.
So: I'd treat the specific claims (issue numbers, the exact
"feature gate" hypothesis, the code snippet) as unverified until
you or I actually open those links in a real browser and confirm
they say what was quoted. I wouldn't cite them in a support
ticket without checking first.

Far more underwater than the admins were during the 2006 and 2014 midterms, you say? Not mad at that
A graph showing the change in house/senate seats of midterm elections every 4 years since 1962. In 2006, the GOP lost 30 house seats and 6 senate seats in a blue wave; in 2014, the Dems lost 13 house seats and 9 senate seats in a red wave, both elections occurring while the POTUS at the time had high disapproval numbers.

2%, that makes it far more unlikely that someone will have trans friends/family. Especially when there's so much more involved in actually/societally transitioning. But I do think your take is heavily influenced by being fairly online, as mass polling of normies mainly looks like this:
From a Human Rights Campaign poll:

• Nine in ten (89%) American adults agree that "transgender people should have the same ability as anyone else to get the healthcare they need."
• Democrats: 94%
• Republicans: 80%
• Independent/Other: 90%
• Eight in ten (79%) American adults agree or strongly agree that "transgender people should be protected from discrimination in hiring and employment."
• Democrats: 93%

especially when the things he does outside IN PUBLIC are also deeply unnerving!
The images show Leto alongside his fans (or followers, as the distinction remains unclear), all dressed in white, with Leto adopting a strikingly Messianic appearance-definitely an odd sight. If viewed at face value, it certainly resembles a cult: a charismatic leader with Messianic symbols, followers in matching attire, and an isolated setting where they attentively listen to their guide.

These so-called "exclusive" VIP fans of Leto and his band are referred to as the "Echelon," and if the reports are accurate, they exhibit a fervent devotion. In 2020, a camp was held in Croatia for fans to "do yoga" and meet Leto, with ticket prices soaring to $6,500; it's easy to speculate that similar "camps" have been organized since.

Allegedly, Leto even held a bizarre contest for attendees, primarily composed of young women, offering the winner a chance to spend the night with him. However, this isn't even the most unsettling aspect of the story if we consider Leto's own statements:

The fans are an incredibly committed and passionate group of people. Going to a show is kind of like visiting Japan, you expect gifts on your arrival. You get all kinds of wonderful things. Someone cut their ear off once and sent it to me, that was very strange. A whole ear. The Van Gogh move.

also interesting for that person to post that 24 hours after the poll that showed a self-described demsoc is less of a liability than being endorsed by Trump or being self-described MAGA nationally. moderate handwringing not being supported by polling? this has never happened before!
A poll asking if certain candidate descriptors would make the respondent more or less likely to vote for a candidate.

"Self-described Democratic Socialists"- 32% more likely, 50% less likely
"Endorsements from President Trump"- 29% more likely, 52% less likely
"Self-described supporters of the MAGA movement"- 27% more likely, 57% less likely

Here's a couple snippets of the fantastic @lamaterial.bsky.social story on the days leading up to the deadline (this was actually their first story, an incredible way to kick off the site) lamaterial.com/p/five-days-...
SATURDAY, FEB. 8: Hours until the filing deadline.

It was chilly out and not yet 8 a.m. when Raman and her communications
director Stella Stahl sat on a low concrete ledge in Los Angeles State Historic
Park and called reporters for embargoed interviews. Raman told the LA. Times
that she had “deep respect” for Bass, but the city couldn't function without big
changes.

Then the councilmember hopped into an SUV with her chief of staff, Andrea
Conant, and headed toward the City Clerk's office at Piper Technical Center.
She called the mayor as they drove.

Bass was shocked and baffled, in part because she felt that Raman had never
‘made the severity of her concerns known, publicly or privately, nor did the
‘mayor think that Raman had presented a clear alternative during her years on
the council, or while chairing the council's housing and homelessness
committee.

The roof of Piper Tech, the building where candidates file, has sweeping views
of the downtown skyline and distant mountains. But the journalists gathered
up there were focused on the parking lot below, waiting for any sign of Raman.
1f she showed up, it was real.

Raman strode into the building just before 9 am. with cameras clacking.
Millman — who was now acting as Raman’s campaign consultant — turned
toward nearby reporters. Now that Raman was filing her paperwork, the
embargo was lifted and they could reveal she was running,

"I'was an outsider when I first ran, and I think I'll be an outsider in this race,
and I'm OK with that,” Raman told the cameras a few minutes later, positioning
herself as a change candidate despite the fact that after five years on the
council many will consider her part of the very establishment she is railing
against.

The breathless media comparisons to New York Mayor Zohran Mamdani, the
DSA-backed 34-year-old who breached Gracie Mansion in November, began
before Raman had even left the filing area.As news of Raman's final decision reached Brentwood that Saturday morning,
Caruso grew incensed that the city might end up with something he thought
was worse than Karen Bass: a possible socialist mayor.

He started dialing around again, getting second, third and fourth opinions
about whether he should change his mind one last time.

still in his workout clothes, Caruso — who is typically ferried around town in an
impeccably tailored suit — briefly considered getting in his car and driving
himself down to Piper Tech to plunge into the race. But he was out of time to do
anything but sit back in astonishment.

Six weeks later, the race remains wide open. According to a recent poll, more
than half of voters don't know which candidate they will back.

My only negative thought this inning is this game's going to make the x-W/L differential between the Rays and the Yankees even more frustrating. Adding +10 run differential (so far) while the Rays' x-W/L is 6 games under their actual record
A screenshot of stats for the 5 AL East teams. The key information is the Tampa Bay Rays with a +19 run differential, good for an expected W/L of 30-26. Their actual record is 36-20. The Yankees have a run differential of +93, for an x-W/L of 39-19. Their actual record is 35-23.

Not sure what caused this to get attention today, but as a 14 month later update: yeah, it's gotten way worse. The SEC office responsible for enforcement press releases hasn't published since last March, and data available to the industry shows enforcements at historic lows @mugrimm.bsky.social

When compared to the monthly average number of enforcement actions from 2018-2024, the enforcement actions in 2025 were massively lower. #2 is this guy
Donnchadh, Scotland
There are few dogs who have changed the course of history in two different countries and over centuries. A loyal bloodhound named Donnchadh, who belonged to King Robert the Bruce of Scotland, did exactly that with one faithful act.
In 1306, the English had captured Robert the Bruce's wife and his dog, Donnchadh. They devised a plan to use Robert the Bruce's dog to track him down and uncover his hiding place. The soldiers released the dog, who was able to find his owner, but surprised the English when he turned on them and defended his master, driving the soldiers away.

Robert the Bruce survived because of his dog's intervention, and went on to become King of Scotland. Four centuries later, King George III, a direct descendant of Robert the Bruce, would aggressively enforce the British trade laws with the American colonies.
The disputes that arose between the American colonies and the British was what led to independence of the United States. Had Robert the Bruce not been rescued by Donnchadh, King George III would never have been born, and America may not be where it is today.
