It doesn't make anyone happy but President Trump's carbon tax is driven by his passion to combat climate change.

Btw while I have your attention on diet and climate, “eat local” also isn’t a real climate strategy either. To reduce climate impact: 1. Minimize your food waste 2. Eat more plants and less animal-based foods (esp beef and lamb) 3. Everything else matters a lot less (so eat what you like)
ourworldindata.org
You want to reduce the carbon footprint of your food? Focus on what you eat, not whether your food is local
“Eat local” is a common recommendation to reduce your diet's carbon footprint. How does the impact of what you eat compare to where it comes from?

When you read a book only a fraction of what you get from the experience is the information in the book. The vast majority of what comes from reading is a new experience of yourself that comes to exist in relation to the book’s unique patterns.

I'd say it's most like employing a 4th grader as a research assistant. Cute, eager, bad at reading, gets distracted easily, ultimately has no idea what I'm actually asking for.

Just for the record, I'm a writer. I'm authoring a book, which entails performing a lot of archival work, analysis, synthesis, original research, and literature reviews. I have given AI a fair shot and it is consistently, 100% useless to me. Independent of my ethical opposition to it, it's just bad.

The President of the United States continuing to bring the full force of the federal government down on a guy *everyone knows is innocent*, just like he did with Kilmar Abrego Garcia and so many others, is absolutely 1,000% impeachable IMHO. This is just straight up tyranny

Rudy Giuliani is why a lot of people died during and after 9/11. Has anyone said he shouldn't show up? How about George W. who cut anti-terrorism measures that might've prevented it? Why does racist fantasy harm matter more than real harm; the answer is racism, including in amplifying these voices.

AI companies are trying to do this, but with human knowledge. It's why they're destroying the books. Wipe out our ability to think for ourselves, then own the means of thinking.

The causal inference is all over the place--do ppl who believe different things make them look different or does the looking different make them believe different things? The utterly terrified position from which he barks about people needing to appear normal, all of it. Chef's kiss fucking stupid.

I have a backwards compatible PlayStation 3. I can buy/trade/barter any PS 3, 2, or 1 game in existence and still play it. If a PlayStation exec could walk into my house and destroy it with a bat, they would.

By getting rid of physical discs, PlayStation isn't trying to reduce its environmental footprint or reduce the cost of consoles, they're trying to make sure you can never share a game with a friend, resell a game after you beat it, or rediscover an old game you loved without paying them more money.

Learning, like, real, brain-changing, neural-pathway-altering learning takes so much time sitting and thinking and wrestling and supposing and contradicting the self, which is why books get the job done and reels don’t.
