I love how science fiction can address the stickiest global situations with humor and imagination.

New video: The Day the Earth Caught Fire Britain burns, Fleet Street watches, and nobody quite seems to know who’s in charge. A wonderfully strange film about power, decline and national panic. The Day the Earth Caught Fire Was Really About Power youtu.be/K43A1KsEGgs

I’m working on the next video for The Decline and Fall of British Sci-Fi, and there’s a clue in this photo. That’s all you’re getting because some of you lot are frighteningly good at this stuff. What do you all reckon I’m covering next?

I think we’ve been asking the wrong question about Equilibrium for over twenty years. New essay: Equilibrium Isn’t About Fascism. It’s About Video Games. youtu.be/JUOqnLvWtnM

I can't believe we never made this crossover. Centuries of British culture all for naught.

Sometimes a film isn’t interesting because it predicts the future. Sometimes it’s interesting because it accidentally tells the truth about the present. That’s where I ended up with Equilibrium. New essay. Tonight. 19:00 (UK).

I’ve been away from YouTube since May, but The Decline and Fall of British Sci-Fi is finally returning. Coming soon: Equilibrium — a film built like an early-2000s video game, where emotion is outlawed and violence becomes choreography. Naturally, I have thoughts.

My position on the current Doctor Who situation: Sad as it is, I think the healthiest thing now is a proper long rest. Not cancellation. Just time. Let people miss it. Let the noise die down. Then bring it back when there’s a strong creative reason — not just because the machine needs feeding.

Upcoming video: The Amazing Digital Circus. Not a lore breakdown. Not a theory map. More a look at what happens when a machine-managed world can only understand people as simple, repeatable versions of themselves. Bright colours. Funny voices. Quiet psychological torture. Coming soon.

Slight detour over on The Venuzian Jungles soon. I’ve been staring at The Amazing Digital Circus until it started looking psychologically suspicious. My read: it isn’t just about being trapped online. It’s about being flattened into a version of yourself the machine can process. Coming soon.

I’m not surprised, you are charming and tough at the same time just like her…..it also helps that you do indeed actually look like her.

Aliens is usually treated as the loud one. The war film. The marines. The swagger. But the older I get, the less that reading holds. It doesn’t feel like a victory story. It feels like going back into a broken home… …and trying to bring something vulnerable out alive. youtu.be/NOHk8yVg6Gc
