Stop doing these asinine studies
“For example, 0.45 minutes are lost per gram of processed meat, or 0.1 minutes are gained per gram of fruit. We then look at the composition of each food and then multiplied this number by the corresponding food profiles that we previously developed,” Jolliet said.

If it’s not an important enough detail for you to write, why on earth do you think a reader needs to read it? Write by numbers bullshit.

People are just so ignorant of what the government does. Can’t count how many times I’ve heard “politics is such a small part of life.” That’s only because you don’t notice all the good that comes from having the right people/policies in place

So messed up how “if a rich, famous criminal is held legally accountable for crimes he definitely did, they’ll come for you, who did no crimes, next” resonates with more of the US public than “if a legal resident who committed no crime is disappeared without notice, they could come for you next.”

This reaction is so strange to me because my Lithuanian grandparents had a gnarly little elf they moved around the house when my dad was growing up and then when we visited when we were kids and it was the best thing— we still have him and my parents hide him for my nieces. It really was a tradition

Absolutely love this. I've read a lot of very clearly defensive work these past few years - like, "I can pick out exactly what Twitter thread this paragraph is responding to" kind of clear - and it's ruined so many books for me. Begging authors to stop writing to criticism.
