It's just so weird. She can't do much about her nose, but in that still image in the red dress, she's skeleton thin and for some reason then had all the fat sucked out of her face, and topped it all off with a very unnatural boob job and eyebrow treatment. <shrugs>

Heating oil - If the product and the pricing are the same, I wonder how a customer chooses. Perhaps a free wall calendar is the decisive factor?

When I was a young boy in Ohio, I read about Mozer's part in the scandal and that he went to Whitman College in Walla Walla, WA. I thought the city name was a funny typo. Later, I was transferred to Kennewick about an hour away from Walla Walla. I visited once, ate some sweet onions. The End. 🙂

No surprise Texas is the outlier with 35% of respondents preferring independence. Their "glorious" past was in fact a very short-lived failure, but it's probably not taught that way in schools.

The rest of the world is paying a LOT more for crude oil than the United States. Yesterday DOE-EIA reported Brent at $29/barrel premium to WTI. Ouch! Nearest futures contract price, Tue settle: WTI $89.50/barrel Brent $100.50 Spot (now) price: WTI $96.25 Brent $125.50

Related: the WSJ reporters and editors have never left Manhattan. ;-) "Corrections & Amplifications Mesabi Metallics will transport its iron ore by railroad to the Iowa plant. An earlier version of this article incorrectly said that it would transport the ore using the Mississippi River."

Useless trivia: Cargill will sell Maine all the road salt they need. It comes from one of the largest salt mines in the world under Lake Erie. #ClevelandRocks I think there is a Morton mine also, a little farther away from Cleveland. Don't know if it's still open.

How bad are things in Cuba? So bad that the U.S. has sent them 6.8M dozen eggs in the first half of 2026. For context, there are very few entries going back to 1989.

Nearly 80% of the voters in farming dependent counties (USDA definition) chose this. Map in link is worth a look b/c ag production (at farm level) is really important in small grain & beef counties, less so in corn & soy Midwest. www.investigatemidwest.org/trump-electi...

Hot off the press: the DOE-EIA Winter Fuels Outlook. If you click around on the 2nd link (expenditures) you'll find an eye-popping estimate for heating oil (close to diesel in composition and price): ~$2000 v. ~$600 for nat gas. www.eia.gov/outlooks/ste... www.eia.gov/outlooks/ste...

It's on the decline but until air-source heat pumps became viable in N. climates (ground source was $$), if you ripped out a coal furnace and didn't have access to utility nat gas, then you installed heating oil or propane. Propane can be quite expensive too in an older, poorly insulated home.

If I were a consultant and my candidate was worth $11M to $38M (filings), and the cost of living was a large legit issue, and farmers were whining about profitability (evergreen), I wouldn't arrange a speech on a *4000 acre* crop and pig farm in front of a v. expensive tractor.

#OnThisDay Oct 6 2005: Minnesota Vikings players charter 2 boats on Lake Minnetonka, hire sex workers, and engage in wild, public misconduct in front of the largely underage staff of Al & Alma's boat rentals. The "Love Boat Scandal" remains the low point for the franchise to this day.
One of the boats the "Miss Chievious" underway on the Lake.

Thanks for the long-ago recommendation. I may pick up one of his books. I always passed over the TV mini series (and spin offs) b/c I thought they were mostly fictional romances. Cattle, mountains, rivers, occasional dead person... Taylor Sheridan just updated and made more violent and more $$$.

speaking of rural Nebr, I finally watched original Lonesome Dove TV series. Acting, scenery, showing misery 👍 BUT I have a bone to pick. I couldn't figure out why they spent so much time digging a well (or spring fed stock tank) when they only had a few animals and could walk to the Rio Grande.

I should do that too and/or buy an emergency or full size spare for longer trips. I don't know what the pct is, but more cars are shipped w/o a spare and a compressor and plug kit isn't going to do much good with a ruined tire in Timbuktu.

Nat Gas: short term pricing, transportation and storage is another world. The prices in highlight are ~50% of the cost of production and within a month or two they can easily be $4; in the middle of winter a multiple of that. But, if you needed it for Sat/Sun/Mon you got a super deal.

Thanks for the photos. Can't grow corn there, but it's beautiful country. 😀 Just curious -- the Lexus(?) that had a tire problem, was it something so specialized that they couldn't even find a safe, suitable temporary replacement?

If you ever wanted to be a shipping magnate, here's a lower risk way to get your foot in the door. First, make a lot of money speculating on freight rates. Second, finance a barely seaworthy rusty tub, then another, become corrupt, buy a Greek island.

A LOT of diesel will be used in US ag the next two months for harvest/transport/some tillage. Like Tommy Boy's head, it leaves a mark in consumption stats. *corn *soybeans *cotton *peanuts *sorghum (aka milo) *sugar beets *sunflowers Wheat, rice, barley and oats are generally finished by mid-Sep.

Spuds might be only other food you can buy in a store at less than a buck a lb. Walmart sells them for 65 cts but you have to buy 5 lbs. Amazing efficiency in LatAm plantations v. spuds and everything else w/ more labor, special vessels, Canal fees, cross country freight, highly perishable, etc.

IDK much about cattle but I do know 1) you shouldn't see their ribs and 2) you should be making bank on them the last couple of yrs, not going bankrupt. Also, if the guy only farms 200 acres, a 4 y/o tractor valued at $225K and the grain handling equipment on bal. sheet is nuts for that operation.
