Book 45 of 2026. A really cracking account of the campaign to save an estate on the outskirts of Leeds. It traces the estate's roots as manufactured homes for coal miners, and relates its fate to wider housing and economic trends. 4⭐ - lots of you would enjoy this #booksky #Eviction #jessicafield

The threshold raise was a complete disasterclass by the 2010 Liberal Democrats: it narrowed the tax base, they got no credit for it in government, why on earth would you want to do it again when the public realm and the public finances are in a worse state?

The gap between private rents and LHA hit 23% in March 2024, a record. Two years of freeze later, it is almost back at that level, and is due to pass that record in October. If nothing changes, it is projected to reach 30% by March 2028.
Line chart of the gap between private rents and Local Housing Allowance in Great Britain, April 2012 to March 2028. It is a book. The writing inside it is sparse and precise. The Author, R, has written many books. I have enjoyed them. This one is different. R has breached a new frontier. The book confuses me and intrigues me in equal parts. The book is the 43rd I have read this year, and deserves 4⭐ #booksky
