That's where I am too. With the added problem of hearing Etsuko Kozakura (OG Tamama) as MuMu last year.

Had my flu jab, it was a little disorganised as they have a pharmacy doing it instead the surgery this year (probably should ask about allergies before you stick the needle in my arm...). As I don't qualify for the Covid jab this year, getting that done privately in a few weeks.

Started reading Mr. Clice on Manga Million. Really like the running joke about the sort of people Clice has to rescue every mission. On chapter four now, where we've got the reasoning why they are avoiding giving Clice a man's body. (He's a better spy as a woman, and inspires their female recruits)

Only just learnt that some gags that were censored on the initial broadcast of PTPP weren't censored on the re-dubbed "Repeat" version. Which does the BD have?

Was frustrating when researching my Anime Disco panel that while Reiko Mikami is permanently dressed like she's about to go Juliana's Tokyo, I don't think we ever see her at a night club.

Can't call it a disappointment, as the trailer made sure you knew it looked like shit ahead of time. But what a waste of this script.

Brian Smith @brianditb.bsky.social · 09/10/2026

I've not felt the gulf twixt script and production that Dandivine has in quite some time. I think even The Marginal Service was more competently animated, and had a worse script than Dandivine.

The FF & Spider-Man issues work much better as first issues and take better advantage of the extended page count (also they have more exciting art than X-Men).

000

Brian Smith @brianditb.bsky.social · 09/10/2026

Midnight X-Men reminded me of the sort of chapters you get from struggling manga where the author introduces 13 different characters that they'd planned to trickle into the story, but instead you get them all at once as a futile shot in the arm. Weird to do it in issue 1.

This month in Empyreal Cabinet: behold the misogyny that has been simmering beneath the surface of this 99% male story all this time. Doesn't let our hero off either, as we see how his machinations have ruined the life of one of the rare female characters in the manga.

The latest Conan manga arc that wrapped up was p. light in terms of mystery, but I liked Conan solved the murder and apprehended the suspect without police involvement. Then the metatextual punchline of Conan removing a narrative crutch Aoyama had relied on and it immediately causing Conan grief.

I can't believe it's only today I've learned of Radio 4 broadcasting software - actual software like you'd get on a cassette tape - in 1984. What a listing this is.

BBC Genome listing:
First broadcast: Mon 6th Feb 1984, 00:00 on BBC Radio 4 FM
12.23-12.28* am The Chip Shop Takeaway Service
Barry Norman invites you to sample some Basicode computer software. Record the bleeps, feed them into your home computer and savour the programs.

I drew no such conclusion, I was just covering my bases on where your experience of Ayacon ended given that you seemingly did not know about the continued existence Amecon, Kitacon, Minamicon, Hotarucon, Haruhicon etc. etc.

Brian Smith @brianditb.bsky.social · 07/10/2026

Also, the MCM shows have been running since 2002.

000

Brian Smith @brianditb.bsky.social · 07/10/2026

There's more of the Ayacon-type con in the UK than ever, so you really don't have to miss them. Unless you miss pre-2005 residential UK cons with the awkward mix of piracy and official releases on the video programming. In which case that's been gone for 21 years and ain't coming back.

Let's do one of these myself. I would have had either Windmill or Stay Tooned in the Rock Family Trees spot, but neither had thumbnails. All three hold undue influence on my presentation skills.

The 3 x 3 media meme, this time TV shows. I have picked the following:
The Phil Silvers Show, Twin Peaks, Alexei Sayle's Stuff, Guy Montgomery's Guy Mont Spelling Bee, Rock Family Trees, Sherman's Showcase, The Rockford Files, The Fast Show, The Real Ghostbusters.
