One more pic from my talk at last month’s @iconconference.bsky.social —I loved getting the chance to look back at my very first time seeing my work in print: my painting “Golden” featured on the cover of @thestranger.com Many thanks to photographers Nessa K & Adrian Stein for documenting the event!
A photo of my talk at the ICON 13 Illustration Conference in Baltimore in July 2026. The photo shows me standing at podium on stage at the Maryland Institute College of Art, with a painting and magazine cover on the screen behind me.‘’I remember getting on the bus on a rainy Seattle day, looking down at the floor, and finding my painting crumpled up in a puddle between my feet.

Seeing your work on a gallery wall is exciting, sure—but the floor of a bus?! Priceless.’’‘’This was my first time seeing my work in print—something I hadn’t truly considered as a possibility before seeing it with my own eyes. But it felt great.

And seeing my work pop up in coffee shops and bars all over Seattle gave me repeated confirmation that this feeling was something worth pursuing.’’“Golden” — pencil and acrylic on illustration board, 18” x 24”. Originally created for “Beyond the Western Lands” at SOIL Gallery in Seattle, WA.

The painting featured on the cover of “The Stranger” from June 2013

because of the quarterly nature of publishing it's that time of year where I turn into a "No" machine and turn down jobs because my inbox turns into a broken fire hydrant. Not complaining, it's a nice problem, but all my usual referrals are busy. You draw book covers? You available? sound off below
