As more and more of the corporate world outsources work to AI, this is a great insight into how my portfolio is "conceptualized" by tools Might be time to take another look into how the emerging world of "AEO" (AI/Agent Engine Optimization) is evolving

All three emails are from different domains. Two of them are sales calls for helping me with "my next prelaunch/Kickstarter campaign", and the other one is a bit odd in that it ended with an ask for if I want resources on how to prototype game ideas faster

There's some new scraper or AI tool that's led to me receiving three emails this past week about how I "build VR gladiator games" My portfolio's most recent work was the marketing website for GORN 2. Apparently the tools aren't smart enough to realize I made the website, not the game

At the end of the day, I think developers need to think about friction: how much will they fight a pre-made solution? Will that time outweigh building their own solution?

I'd do all the iteration/exploration in my custom JS engine, and then bring it over to Godot once I had settled on a design I'm slowly becoming more familiar with Godot, without sacrificing velocity on the project 😛

I've been slowly building up a boilerplate JS/WebGPU project over the past few months and tried to adopt Godot for a new project A 10 minute task turned into 3 hours of reading docs & learning Godot. As I was still in the prototyping stage, I ended up taking a hybrid approach

Good job, government. Your social media bans just taught the kids espionage skills. This is no different than using classified ads in the newspaper to share coded messages.

In high school science, we shared tables with one other student. I realized that my TI-83 calculator had the full latin alphabet on it, so my friend & I would covertly chat during class I wonder if my teacher ever caught on to why we shared a calculator during lectures

The biggest takeaway I got from this jam was that I fell back into the "write all the systems first" trap. I just really wanted to write the graphics pipeline!! Should Battle III ever see the light of day, I'll make sure to allocate more time towards play testing & game design 😜

Ethan & I collab'd 13 YEARS AGO for GBJam #2, during our first semester of college. I was 17!! It was sooooo long ago... Despite losing contact for over a decade, we found ourselves meshing with each other as if no time had passed 😄

Last night I hooked up animations via JavaScript generators to start iterating on various effects Trying to explore the space to see what's possible, what looks good, and what isn't too complicated to manage in code 😛

With my conference travels over, I've been able to focus on game dev again Ethan's been crushing it on the art front! Plugging his sprites into my rendering pipeline has me super giddy

Making a thread for me & @efan.me's #gbjam 14 game We participated in GBJam #2 back in 2013, and are teaming up once again 13 years later! To start, I've built a lil' rendering pipeline in WebGPU that takes a grayscale image, limits it to 4 colors, and then applies a color palette
A Game Boy-inspired handheld console rendered in HTML and CSS, with a WebGPU canvas embedded for the screen. Along the bottom of the console, three previews of each step in the rendering pipeline are shown. The stages are "raw grayscale", "posterized", and "colorized".

Approximating the Lorenz attractor with a chaotic leaky water wheel. The orange dot is the centre of mass of the water. It traces (a projection of) the familiar attractor as the wheel spins seemingly randomly left and right.

Just now realizing "proof of concept" and "concept art" feel very different despite both being pre-production work

While the pop-in/out issue was mostly resolved in my final code, I used a solid color instead of the sky gradient which caused weird blending at certain terrain & camera angles

Fog was one of those things that I had early in my voxel engine but had to adjust 2 or 3 times later. The pop-in problem had a lot of edge-cases

I bought the PS1 3-game collection at a garage sale when I was a freshman in high school (~2010) and I could not believe how primitive the original game was. It wasn't even 3D!

I think it boils down to limited vector graphics support in most game engines/frameworks. Most of those that support SVG rasterize on import The Newgrounds style 100% does deserve a revival
