It was @brayjazz.bsky.social Festival time again this weekend. Saw the Finnish 🎺 Verneri Pohjola & his band at the Mermaid Theatre last night. His bass player father, Pekka Pohjola, worked with Mike Oldfield. Brilliant music from them and the opening act, the Francesco Turrisi Trio 👏

RTÉs John Kelly knows a thing or two about music. Currently host of the popular 'Mystery Train' on RTÉ lyric fm, the presenter recent described VIJAY IYER as one of the world's greatest pianists. No small praise indeed! Vijay plays @mermaidartscentre.bsky.social on Saturday night, 3rd May.

HBD to the great Randy Brecker, 79 years young. For Parliament "Do That Stuff" (1976), the horns are Fred Wesley, Maceo Parker, Rick Gardner, Michael Brecker, Randy Brecker. Near the end, Randy lets loose a short high note obbligato in baroque herald style. Fantastic www.youtube.com/watch?v=ezc3...

Fabulous gig at the Barbican with Dave Holland, can anyone else make the bass sound like this?, Chris Potter, lithe, powerful and rhythmic, and the inestimable Eric Harland well able to whip up a storm with the best, but mostly subtle and sensitively adding percussive colour. Wonderful #WeAreJazz
