i have a legitimate PCNY celebi from the actual real-life PCNY distribution machine but i have never personally stepped foot inside the store. i am visiting NYC today so i finally took her home; it might not be the PCNY store anymore, but the poke ball door handles are from the original PCNY 🩷

The streamers and personalities who are the most vocal are going to have a lot to say about this... Whether a significant number of streamers will actually leave the platform is another thing, though, one which I'm not sure about.

I just read someone say "maybe some art is just meant to be an 8.5/10" and I felt a little spark in my brain. As a critic I am always evaluating what was amazing about something and what could be improved. But my expectation is never that a great work be a 10/10.

According to Cross Marketing’s survey of 1200 console gamer in June, physical media is alive in Japan: • 41% prefer physical, 40% prefer digital, and 19% buy them equally • The ratio is slowly drifting toward digital • 2025 was an outlier, possibly bc of the NS2 and PS5 Japan-only model launches 1/

Console Game Purchase Media (Single Answer)
Purchase all as digital download versions
Purchase both, with digital download being more common
Purchase both, equal in roughly proportions
Purchase both, with physical package being more common

If you're an Xbox player, you might have Game Pass already. Game Pass subscribers can do this without ads already. Meanwhile, if you have an Xbox that runs the game natively, you can just stream from that. So this is a very situational feature AND the headline looks bad out of context.

Spent an hour typing a 400 word thing for a job-related questionnaire just for their site to time me out and wipe what I had written out of the text field. :) Note to self: Type in a notes app and then upload to the site.

I find it very funny that both this game and Indiana Jones on every other platform are license disks or digital only while being physical on the media on Switch 2.

This is in Europe, only, as far as we're aware. For context, the European Union enacted a regulation that requires many electronic devices sold to include user-replaceable batteries. It likely makes no sense to revise 10 year-old hardware to comply, so the OG Switch is being sunset there to comply.

Anyone who does this is scum. It's not just corporations and whatnot that are exploitative of someone's time, efforts, and passion (and in this case, their livelihood); regular people can be too.

Remember that we are a species and society of never-ending progress. There will be bumps and stalemates and moments that feel like complete regressions, but at the end of the day, some tomorrow ends up being better than today for us and those we love as long as we try.

Saying we should all go back to physical media I think misses the point. I actually *like* buying games and movies digitally for a bunch of reasons. What we need is better consumer protections so the things we do buy digitally are actually owned and companies cant delete/revoke access!

Anyway, the larger conversation to be had here is around digital rights and what a license should enable. This needs to be a larger consumer rights issue going forward to push for new rules that allow for clear rules around refunds and end of life access etc.

I simultaneously expected and didn't expect to see this announcement. Really sucks for collectors and preservationists. Now is time to seriously start talking about ways to make digital purchases better, because it's clear that physical games are likely done. blog.playstation.com/2026/07/01/p...
