I mean, look at his skin. 56 year old straight men never have skin that good, you couldn't pay them to moisturize.

In highschool, running most days, lifting 3x a week, lettering in track, at my approximate physical peak ideal: 52B, size 11 feet, tall shirts, petite pants, wearing a 20W most of the time and nothing fit right, and I'm 5'4". I'm built like a teddy bear. Girl I *get* it.

Working on a demo. if you to my current experiment in mad science, go to mmatthews1981.github.io you can see my current progress in making a site that violates every SC and passes axe-core 100%. I can't remember the state I left the carousel pane buttons in, but that's the example

I've already snagged a good one, and learned that axe only measures the size of clickable regions along the width axis.

When did it come back? Because I could SWEAR the warning was gone earlier this year when I was fighting with my boss about this pattern.

Building an accessibility anti-example and looking for ideas so I'm just casually scrolling through @aardrian.bsky.social to see what's annoyed him over the past year

Have you seen that the wai-aria "pattern library" added a warning that you probably shouldn't do this?

Totally understandable. Thats why I like that one totally mediocre chain restaurant that just plops a pot of coffee on your table and walks away.

In the same way that most crypto isn't morally neutral and that's not mitigated by the fact that, statistically speaking, nobody uses crypto anymore.

Also, incidentally, I don't think ai as it exists is morally neutral. But the immorality is institutional, not individual. I genuinely think that if every programmer on the planet blocked ai right now it would affect absolutely nothing.

Maybe that's the problem, women finally hit S-tier in Womaning around 32 and the chud industrial complex simply can't handle it.

Debbie Downwardly Mobile, World's Oldest Millennial @braindouche.bsky.social · 03/10/2026
"women should just kill themselves when they become terminally unfuckable at 29" is such a distressingly common take that simply cannot survive the light of existing in a world of full-grown adult women. I'd argue you're not even really good at womaning around until you're over thirty.

All I know is that the contextually aware plagiarism machine is actually pretty useful in one fairly narrow use-case and I would really prefer we figure out how to not ruin the lives of an awful lot of people when we make it go.

And incidentally, just because two successful doorstop experimental novels came out at roughly the same time does not mean we should spill oceans of ink comparing House of Leaves and Infinite Jest. The whole thing just reeks of intellectual clickbait wankery, just stop it.

And to get *really* meta, The Familiar points directly backwards at House of Leaves. Same with Little Blue Kite, but in that case I'm reasonably sure that's intentional.

Tom's Crossing wears its inspiration of Cormac McCarthy's Blood Meridian like an oozing skin suit. The Whalestoe Letters, which I adore btw, has The Yellow Wallpaper all over it. Only Revolutions reads like Virginia Woolf's The Waves if it was a road trip novel

And that's not to say that being derivative is necessarily bad, but in this case, it's like he's just signposting the better, older book. I'm not saying House of Leaves isn't interesting, innovative, or entertaining, but I am saying Nabokov's Pale Fire did it better.

Debbie Downwardly Mobile, World's Oldest Millennial @braindouche.bsky.social · 03/10/2026
Like many people, I loved House of Leaves and enjoyed a period of time just getting lost in the labyrinth and making it my entire personality. Good times. The more I read of his, though, the more I think MZD wrote one (1) good book, and that he's deeply derivative. And I find that disappointing.

Secrecy about a fuckup year often being worse than the fuckup is, like, kind of instinctual for lots of people, we learn this as kids. How it applies with adult crimes is wild now that I've scratched at it.

Oh totally! And the sincerely fun argument of whether the art is the tool that generated or the generated product.

My position is that if you wrote a prompt to an llm, generate a result, and then publish it as your creation, you're basically just reposting stock photos. I worry that I'm throwing the entire Dada movement under the bus that way, but dadaists were early conceptualists too and they might be safe.

Questionnaire: did you use ai in the production of this thing? Me, probably: I don't fuckin' know, man, my editor autocorrected 12 things contextually when I changed one. Maybe? The answer is actually yes, but the line is much fuzzier than non-technical people devoted to anti-ai realize.

This is how I find out about most things these days. It's not the news or whatever, it's someone on bsky having Big Opinionated Feelings about something they're often not referencing specifically and then I gotta go find out.

"Geller dug his own grave by not disclosing his past actions to his current collaborators and audience." I think I agree, I'll have to think on this for a while, but here's a very honest question: how does anyone do this? Is there an example of someone doing this right?

I was raised a conservative, then I came out, libbed out. Then I ran a business that peaked at four people total for ten years and that made me a socialist and now I run an extremely small corporation and I'm ready for the worldwide EMP blast to send us back to the mideval autonomous collective
