Just watched the women’s kayak slalom finals, and think it’s definitely one of the sports that would be enhanced by watching a regular person try it first. I would probably drown.

My mother had never mentioned before today that her graduation speaker in 1968 was… Herbert Humphrey. It didn’t go well. timesmachine.nytimes.com/timesmachine...

Whoever works in Microsoft PR is probably BSODing with frustration in their office right now.
Washington Post headline: Travelers affected by Microsoft outage face airport chaos, with a photo of hundreds of people standing around at an airport

I have finally recovered from covid enough to watch the Phillies game. Outdoors at the Pop-up Garden. It is currently 88 degrees.

I make chocolate chip cookies with about 2/3s of the recommended chips. Allows the cookie part to shine. And here I thought this was my secret!

I got my oldest friend, who lives in Chicago, @sarahmackattack.bsky.social ‘s Crab Facts Advent Calendar and she loved it… just as much as the first one she’d already received from her roommate. 😂 Well, I guess we all know each other too well.

Status: logged on to Outlook to convert meetings to zoom because I don’t feel well enough to be at the office, and already had multiple messages from between 6-8am cancelling meetings due to other people being too sick to meet at all.

Yay! The Gods of Max have decided to give us sports, so now I can watch the Phillies, instead of trying to judge how things are going based on listening through open windows for distant roars from the southeast.

The received cultural mythology of 9/11 is so far from my actual lived experience of being an adult New Yorker on that day that it breaks my brain (and my heart) to even try to reconcile the two. For those who are younger, question nearly all of the political framing you hear about that day.

I have outlasted my most annoying neighbor! For years, I've gotten excited every time a moving truck appeared on the block. But she must have moved while I was on vacation earlier this month, which is probably a good thing since popping a bottle of champagne on the stoop would have been unseemly.

Every few years I get excited about the idea of a travel pillow that will allow me to sleep on a plane for once in my life, and I blow $40-60 on something totally useless. Can't wait to do that again this week.

Today (vacation day), I planned a trip to Poland and my colonoscopy and also took steps forward for a house foundation repair. It’s like an adulting EGOT.
