I’ve just launched a big new feature in Kuri and emailed users about it. The reception is much (much!) better than I anticipated! I did some live demos and the reactions were also surprisingly great. Now, let’s hope it improves my ranking because it’s getting murdered right now ☹️

I've been using Acorn for EVER (2011 probably?). Best, most reliable image editor.

“Search the Way you Talk” in the App Store 👀 Curious what it means under the hood… #ASO #AppStore

In the last couple of weeks it’s taken ages for me to get reviewed 😏

Did you write something in “what to test”? Maybe they made it mandatory to be able to add it.

Since a few weeks, I very frequently can’t access the App Store. Anyone else experiencing this recently? I’m on iOS 18.1.1

*Übermutofengriffverbrennungsschmerz (noun)* The uniquely painful yet humbling experience of confidently grabbing something straight out of the oven without proper protection, driven by a momentary lapse in judgment or an inflated sense of one’s heat tolerance.

Also I don't think that it would get the language wrong if you use Copilot with Claude.

Overall I'm happy with the suggested text. But I usually write the copy myself. I delegate the German and don't really bother double checking. If you want a specific tone or context to be taken into account, just write a comment at the top to let Copilot know.

I have no clue but I would assume they are pretty equivalent. Keep us updated about this change if you end up using that :)

Has anyone gotten rid of flying anxiety? Hypnosis maybe? 4 years of flying anxiety + weekly dreams involving flying 😖 All this triggered by one flight in a storm back in 2021.

It’s not just faster/easier/pain-free, it also makes me much more likely to redo copy and experiment more. It’s right before me. While if you dread opening the strings catalog, you’ll likely make less changes/improvements to your copy.

Surely from the entire file, too. Try it, see if you like it! But I’m sooooo relieved I’m not working with string catalogs anymore

I stopped using string catalogs. Also, using Copilot for Xcode helps with not having to switch to translation tools. Copilot gets the context from the main language string (English in my case), no need to use another tool.

I think I need 2 more months 😅 But what’s been most helpful has been reading @natpanferova.bsky.social articles for my understanding + simply getting my hands dirty, one simple experiment at a time.

Coming from UIKit, being self-taught, it was such a paradigm shift, I felt the apparent simplicity was actually making it more difficult for me to achieve what I wanted to implement. "Early days" limitations + APIs being only available from recent iOS versions, I didn't want to exclude users.

Every time I'm making an update on the App Store I have to setup the "What's new" for each language. The UX is terrible, you have press a dropdown and change the language to copy-paste it in a new input. The developer in me won and I've created a Firefox extension to handle this 🔥 #buildinpublic

No better feeling for an indie developer than reading this kind of messages 🥹 Meal planning may not be for everyone, but the benefits are huge if you decide to plan ahead.
An email sent by a user of my cooking & meal planning app named Kuri. This person shares how planning their meals and groceries has made them much more relaxed.

Whoever decided that cell content should align bottom by default Excel/Spreadsheet is an absolute PSYCHOPATH
A cell in Google Spreadsheet where its content is aligned bottom left by default. This is criminal.

Totally! Right now we’re figuring out the card types, and experimenting with shaders. The game (battle) part will come much later I think.

Thanks! Unfortunately not planned yet. It’s really hard to do both alone — I build it in Swift, the native iOS programming language.

Nope! The vast majority of people using Kuri are omnivores. The focus on quality recipes and on helping people figure out their meals & grocery lists completely overshadows the climate agenda. I'm lucky that Kuri got featured many times by the App Store, including in "Best Recipe Apps" in the 🇺🇸 4/4
A smartphone screen displaying the cookware needed for a recipe on a dark-themed app interface. The header reads, 'Cookware for this recipe' in light pink text, with the subtitle, 'Prepare these items before starting the recipe.' Below, the text lists: '1 large pan - to combine and cook the pasta, tomatoes, olive oil, lemon zest, garlic, and boiling water,' and '1 burner - to simmer the pasta mixture and cook the spinach and lentils.' The interface features minimalistic icons at the top and a navigation bar at the bottom, including a button labeled 'Kuri AI.'

The impact of menu design is huge: - 80% of recipes cooked by Kuri users are meatless - 9 out of 10 recipe are seasonal (relative to user's region) - average, localized carbon footprint of cooked recipes (by users): 900g of CO2e. You could assume that most users are vegans or vegetarians... 3/4

Actually, very few people look at this information. It's more about *how we use it* that matters. Generally, Kuri's algorithm will favor seasonal, low-carbon meals in its recommendations. It has a bias for plants over animal products, too. Some call it "menu design" or "choice architecture". 2/4
A smartphone screen displaying a list of seasonal foods for November in France on a white background. The header reads, 'In season now!' with the subtitle, 'Eating seasonal food can effectively lower your carbon footprint.' The section is divided into categories: 'Veggies of the Month,' which includes illustrated icons of porcini mushrooms, green cabbage, Brussels sprouts, and radicchio; 'Fruits of the Month,' featuring icons of pear, pineapple, and apple; and 'Herbs and Salads,' partially visible at the bottom.

For new followers, thought I'd reintroduce my work from the sustainability angle: Kuri (iOS) is a seasonal, carbon footprint-aware cooking app. *What does that mean?* Every recipe comes with localized seasonality data + and carbon footprint info. Can fluctuate every month with seasonality. 1/4
An infographic with a sustainability rating labeled 'Very Good' in bold green text. It highlights attributes such as 'Low Emissions,' 'In Season,' and 'Plant Based.' A horizontal bar shows the carbon footprint equivalent, ranging from 0 km to 8+ km of car ride. The bar is mostly green, indicating low emissions. Below, text reads: 'If you ate like this every day, you'd mitigate 1.64 metric tons of CO2e per year, compared to average.' A vibrant bowl of 'Palak Chana' curry featuring spinach and chickpeas in a rich red-brown sauce, garnished with fresh cilantro leaves. The bowl sits on a white background with a sprig of fresh cilantro and a slice of lemon placed artistically next to it. Text at the top reads: 'Palak Chana Curry w/ Spinach & Chickpea.' At the bottom, icons include a globe symbolizing sustainability and a heart for favoriting, with the label 'Comfort Food.'

That’s a good idea, ty for sharing. One challenge is going to be how to “localize” seasonality. In my cooking app I do that (seasonality is different from one place of the world to another), but for a TCG game it’s gonna be hard to be that specific.

It’s a mystery isn’t it? 😏 If you start asking questions, you might stumble upon the “do-it-yourself-next-time” phenomenon.
