bplane @bplane.bsky.social · 30/09/2026Welp, can't wait for the re-reboot in another 30 years, when they inevitably run the franchise into the ground. Maybe it will be as good as the reboot. 000

bplane @bplane.bsky.social · 25/09/2026The fact that the prime minister of Israel not only knows who Hasan is, but also thinks about him enough to mention him in a speech at the UN, is both very stupid and so emblematic of how chronically online the imperial machine is. 000

bplane @bplane.bsky.social · 25/09/2026Sure, I want a world where there are few criminals, and the cops are accountable to the public, and everybody's happy. That's not the one we currently live in, and being more pro cop isn't going to make it that way. 000
bplane @bplane.bsky.social · 25/09/2026Man I keep saying this, but this is not good business. This isn't even good for the MBA brained, you just make everyone scared, resentful, and distrustful. So many large corporations stay in business through sheer momentum from decisions made 40 years ago. 030
bplane @bplane.bsky.social · 25/09/2026I mean the other cops laughed. Doesn't exactly put a warm and fuzzy feeling in your heart when you see PPD after that. 100

bplane @bplane.bsky.social · 16/09/2026My bigger issue is that there are a lot of CEOs that think that crunch == hard work, and that's just not true. Maybe that's not the case here though. It just seems wrong to me, that he'd be against people vocally criticizing what I see as a systemic failure. But maybe it's a definitional issue. 110
bplane @bplane.bsky.social · 16/09/2026I generally agree with your points and sometimes a better product can come out of it. Though I'd argue that top top performance wouldn't need to crunch at all. Operationally, a perfect project is one where everyone works the hours allotted, and all the milestones are hit. 210
bplane @bplane.bsky.social · 16/09/2026In my mind crunch is definitionally when planning, managerial oversight, dev ops or some combination of the three failed, resulting in unfinished work and extra development hours. If that is part of a businesses normal toolkit, it's standardizing poor development practices. 110
bplane @bplane.bsky.social · 16/09/2026Sure if they're being extreme, it might be grounds to avoid hiring them. But crunch is not a regular tool like SCRUM. Crunch is bad by definition, and should be criticized. There's nothing extreme about vocally criticizing crunch. 110

bplane @bplane.bsky.social · 16/09/2026Very unfortunately, despite humanity's best efforts, much of society is still driven by entropic chaos. Many, many people are rich for completely random reasons (usually parentage), and/or a willingness to be cutthroat, that most well adjusted people don't display. 000

bplane @bplane.bsky.social · 16/09/2026He acknowledged that crunch should be avoided, which is good. But the idea that because somebody criticized crunch on social media, they shouldn't get a job is absurd. Crunch materially harms peoples' lives and the product, and should only ever be a method of last resort. 100
bplane @bplane.bsky.social · 16/09/2026I fundamentally disagree that being ruthless is necessary, there are companies like Supergiant and Valve that are known to treat their employees very well, and are also wildly successful. This obsession with long hours, inevitable crunch, 996, etc. is largely ego driven. 100
bplane @bplane.bsky.social · 16/09/2026Business owners make emotional decisions for all sorts of reasons, including ego (sports coaches too). People are emotional, it's a part of life. Crunch is a failure of management. His policy says "we will inevitably fail, and if you don't like that, it's your problem." 100

bplane @bplane.bsky.social · 15/09/2026Is reality nuanced? Yeah, of course. Is it necessary to crunch to get something out the door sometimes Yes. Do business owners make emotional decisions, and mandate stupid hours because it makes them feel big and important? Also yes. 100
