Warts and all
Mental health providers love hearing positive stories about how someone has struggled with their mental health, recovered, and will for ever be thankful for the wonderful help they received from caring staff. Some meetings start with a story others end with one. This is supposed to be ‘motivational’ for the staff, and good public relations too. What I learned over my career as an NHS psychiatrist, with my own lived experience of mental illness – recurrent depression – is that there are some things that staff and dignitaries attending such meetings do not want to hear about.

64 years ago, on the 27th of September 1962, Rachel Carson's book Silent Spring was published. It handled the environmental harm caused by the pesticide DDT and the disinformation spread by the chemical industry. Carson managed to sway public opinion and even policy. #otd #history 🗃️

When I met Marsha Linehan inspirational creator of DBT. Her therapy helped me I was self taught, but it’s not for everyone and it’s not the person’s fault if it doesn’t, it’s the therapy. Other therapies are available ☺️

I was thinking about the past having a rupture(falling out) with my therapist the term used in therapy. I think it was more a rupture with the system of the NHS not the person. Measures that capture a snippet in time and given no time to fill them in, which give you labels. Enforced boundaries

There have been so many impeachable offenses, but lying about how you were a hero on a day that 2,753 people died in NYC in the 9/11 disaster—when you were on the other side of town, safely calling local media to brag about how you now had the tallest downtown building—is such a despicable one

We need to keep suicide prevention in mind all year round. We know it’s so important and for those who have died by suicide and those bereaved it’s so bloody sad and we can all help. Seeing Papyrus closing its doors is a disaster as young people need our support more than ever. #Suicide prevention

Reform to make long-term jobless clean streets for 20 hrs a week or no benefits. Training, education? Age 60/65, can't work, can't retire, can't see doctor, no local jobs; just clean streets. What future for old, sick, disabled and victims of redundancies? Will it all be policed at gunpoint?
