I'm thrilled to share our recent publication “Overlapping representations in the ventral hippocampus support rapid fear memory retrieval” www.nature.com/articles/s41... We asked, what is the moment-to-moment link between HPC spatial representations, memory retrieval, and fear behaviour?

Overlapping representations in the ventral hippocampus support rapid fear memory retrieval - Nature Neuroscience
Fear learning increases the similarity of threatening and neutral context representations in ventral CA1, which may enable faster reinstatement of threat memories, compared to dorsal CA1.

#eNeuro: Cruz-Sanchez et al. show that two discrete brain subregions, the ventral and intermediate hippocampus, are necessary for “what–where” memory in mice, expanding our understanding of how the brain processes spatial information. doi.org/10.1523/ENEURO.0105-26.2026

Glad to share that our article is finally out! Kirk did a wonderful job designing a 3D printed stereotaxic apparatus controller for fully motorized control, customizable buttons, and a graphic user interface that allows you to load and move to preset coordinates during surgery.

Had a wonderful end of summer lab party to celebrate success in the lab. Sarah defended her MSc, Alina and Royce won graduate scholarships, Jamila and Katherine won Summer research awards, and McKenna, Alina, & Jamila were selected for oral presentations at the CLAE CERI symposium this Fall.

🚨New lab publication is out!! 🚨 In this work we reveal that astrocytes, the most abundant glial cell type, are responsible for the effects of stress and that targeting these cells completely rescued the effects of stress on neuronal activity and behaviour! Huge congrats to Lewis!! See his 🧵below
