I’m annoyed. There is nothing that gets my blood pressure up than high powered people saying some people are incapable of something… and then denying them the opportunity or knowledge to ever try. We are dying from this.

US measles cases hit their highest level since 1991 • 2025: 2,289 cases • 2026: 3,887 cases (Oct 1) • Under 5s: 26% • Ages 5–19: 44% • Ages 20+: 29% • 95% unvaccinated or vaccination status unknown Major outbreaks reported in Texas, Utah, South Carolina and Pennsylvania.
An Associated Press infographic titled "Measles cases are surging across the United States" shows a colour-coded map of confirmed measles cases by state as of Oct. 1, 2026.
A legend on the right outlines six colour tiers:
•	0 cases: White
•	1-9: Pale pink
•	10-49: Light red
•	50-99: Medium red
•	100-499: Darker red
•	500+: Bright solid red
The map shows cases across most of the US. Utah is shaded dark red (100-499), while Texas, Florida, Wisconsin, Pennsylvania, North Carolina, and California are in the 50-99 tier. A handful of states, like Nevada, are white (0).
The map credits the CDC as its source. At the bottom, bylines credit Jonathan Poet and Phil Holm, published at 3:31 AM GMT+11, October 8, 2026.

Honestly, this is fascinating. It looks like standard respiratory panel testing is being done, which is PCR of 7-12 common viruses. C-19 has been specifically mentioned as tested for… so even if it wasn’t on the standard panel it’s been thought about… So…

Adelaide teenager Max Peruzzi, 17, has been left housebound after developing POTS following a COVID infection in 2022. He suffers from extreme fatigue, brain fog, dizziness and a racing heart. "The researcher said virus’, such as COVID or glandular fever, trigger an immune disorder such as POTS"
A screenshot of a news article from The Advertiser online edition, dated October 9, 2026.
The headline reads: "Adelaide teenager Max Peruzzi left housebound by debilitating POTS condition after contracting Covid." A subheadline explains that the 17-year-old South Australian has missed school and developed depression due to the condition, which has no known cure. The article is written by Evangeline Polymeneas.
Below the text is a large photograph of Max Peruzzi, a young male with short brown hair wearing a light grey hoodie. He is pictured outdoors, looking off to the side while holding a small, black Tragus Nerve Stimulator device into his right ear. The device connects to a white wire. The image caption confirms he uses the device to help manage his POTS symptoms.

New Scientist: COVID variant XFG is now dominant globally and better at evading antibodies. Immunity from vaccines and prior infections is still helping prevent widespread severe illness, but experts warn future variants remain a threat as declining global surveillance makes them harder to track.
A screenshot of an article headline from the New Scientist website, celebrating its 70 years anniversary logo.
The primary headline asks: "Does each new covid-19 variant pose a significant threat?" Below it, a subheadline reads: "Most covid-19 cases are caused by a particular type of variant, but do we need to worry every time a new one emerges?" The article is written by Jo Marchant and is dated 9 October 2026.
The lower half of the screenshot shows an illustration of multiple coronavirus particles with round red bodies covered in light blue spike proteins against a dark green, textured background. A small yellow warning icon caption below the image reads: "We've lived with covid-19 for more than half a decade, but it's still evolving." We've worn masks in all indoor spaces & outside in crowds since the pandemic started. What has changed is people's attitude. It has shifted to: If you're worried about Covid, you can protect yourself. - This absolves everyone else from making any effort & increases public health & infection risk.

A screenshot of the NSW Respiratory Surveillance Report for the week ending 3 October 2026, from the NSW Government health website.
A prominent boxed banner at the top states: "Influenza is at a high level of activity. COVID-19 is at a low level of activity. RSV is at a low level of activity."
The "Summary" section repeats these virus activity levels and notes that Influenza vaccination is strongly recommended now.
The "Data sources and methods" section explains how NSW Health monitors respiratory viruses using surveillance data, wastewater programs, and genomic sequencing. It notes that public registration of positive COVID-19 rapid antigen tests (RATs) ceased on 30 September 2023. A final paragraph states that data is updated as new information becomes available, meaning it cannot be directly compared to previous reporting periods. A link at the bottom points to further methodology details.
An image of a data table from the NSW Respiratory Surveillance Report for the week ending 3 October 2026.
An Interpretation banner at the top notes weekly decreases in virus notifications: 18.9% for COVID-19, 18.1% for influenza, and 6.9% for RSV.
The main table breaks down 488 COVID-19 cases, 4,745 Influenza cases, and 647 RSV cases recorded that week, along with Year-to-Date totals. The data is categorized by:
•	Gender: Shows case counts and percentages for females and males across all three viruses.
•	Age Group: Lists data across 11 age categories from 0-4 up to 90+.
•	Local Health District (LHD): Tracks cases across 15 regional districts, highlighting that Western Sydney recorded the highest weekly numbers for Influenza (1,068 cases) and COVID-19 (100 cases).
An image showing three bar charts from the NSW Respiratory Surveillance Report, tracking weekly notifications from 1 April 2025 to 3 October 2026.
•	COVID-19 Chart (Top): Shows a major wave peaking over 4,000 weekly cases in June/July 2025, followed by a steady baseline around 1,000 cases through 2026.
•	Influenza Chart (Middle): Shows a clear seasonal pattern. Cases peaked around 8,000 in August 2025 and hit a massive seasonal spike of nearly 8,000 cases in August/September 2026. The bars are colour-coded by test type, dominated heavily by dark blue (Influenza - Type A).
•	RSV Chart (Bottom): Shows distinct waves, peaking near 3,000 cases in June 2025, dropping to near-zero in summer, and peaking again near 3,000 cases in June/July 2026 before steadily declining.
An Interpretation banner at the top states that weekly test positivity decreased to 2.2% for COVID-19, 17.8% for Influenza, and 1.5% for RSV.
•	Figure 13 (Line/Bar Graph): Tracks weekly COVID-19 positive tests and percentage rates from 1 April 2025 to 4 October 2026. The rate peaked at 7.3% in July 2025 and has stabilized at a low baseline, sitting at 2.2% at the far right.
•	Table 2: Displays a 4-week breakdown of SARS-CoV-2 notifications up to the week ending 04 October. Two red circles highlight specific data points for the final week: a test positivity rate of 2.2% and a total of 3 laboratories reporting. Total weekly PCR tests conducted hover around 9,500 to 10,500.
