"Edgy comedy" isn't really comedy. It's not well-crafted jokes, it's just saying things that make misogynists, racists, bullies, and other people who are shunned by the majority of adults (in other words, assholes) feel like the in-crowd.

One thing about "edgy" comedians is that the second they perform for an audience that didn't actively decide to spend money to see them (or subscribe to their podcast I guess now) you realize that all of their "jokes" are just them being assholes in front of other assholes.

I know people still need time to watch, so I think I'll stop here. Maybe I'll write something long form. I haven't had a new show hit me this hard in a while and it'd be worth it to organize everything I'm thinking on it. But don't just focus on that last episode. That's the least interesting part.

There's so much going on in this series. There's commentary on how social media encourages narcissism and extremism, how bullying gets its power from its *audience*, how people with good intentions can do so much damage by focusing on minimizing conflict and discomfort, how no one LISTENS to girls.

The point of Carrie is that teenage girls are both incredibly powerful and incredibly vulnerable, and the new series does an amazing job of showing how authorities around them (parents, school administrators, media) are more concerned about their own agendas than what's best (and safe) for girls.

Most commentary I've seen on the new Carrie series so far is focusing on the finale and what it means for a potential 2nd season (and I get why that's so noteworthy because it's a big change from the book/De Palma movie) but I think that really misses the point and the power of the overall story.

Asking if Republicans propagandists really "believe" their lies works the same way as defining racism by whether or not a person's inner thoughts are racist instead of looking at how their actual actions and policies affect actual people. It absolves them of responsibility for what they DO.

Megyn Kelly is a propagandist. The job is to say things that influence her audience to support a certain type of politics. Her inner feelings — whatever they may be — are irrelevant. It's like asking if an actor in a movie really "believes" what they're saying in character.
