There needs to be a health middle ground where these kinds of medications are readily available for people like yourself that need them, AND not overprescribed for things where they don’t even have a high efficacy like a tooth ache. Unfortunately what we are doing now isn’t working for anyone.

If these drugs become more available, they will be prescribed, simply because doctors are unaware of how harmful they are. The companies enter a country and schmooze high level officials with lines like “You don’t want a country of people in pain, yes? We have the solution!”

A bigger problem I see is the lack treatment for those who wish to recover from their addiction. Methadone is virtually non-existent outside of USA, Canada, and Europe, and Buprenorphine/Suboxone even in less supply.

Already are in most countries. Typically the lower strength stuff like Tramadol and Codeine is legal, sometimes even hydrocodone, but good luck finding anything stronger almost anywhere in LATAM. They have some low dosage Buprenorphine options for pain, but that’s often the max strength.

The collaborative moderation sounds interesting, but I don’t see enough information in the post to understand if it will actually protect users. From my perspective, protecting users is not a content filtering problem, it’s an access control and authorization problem.

I don’t disagree with respect to your description of their approach, but I was thinking move of a single alt server out taking the main one, driven by an intentional grass roots community effort. With the complexity involved in running AT, I doubt we will ever see as many instances as Mastadon.

Yeah I’m aware of the legality. Definitely not something to experiment with without a faraday cage or accommodating jurisdiction. I have developed a deep interest in drone control systems and how they could be modified to be more secure since seeing how important they have been in Ukraine
