In my modern remake, the thing that brought Charles Foster Kane joy in his youth wasn't a dumb sled, it was the DVD box set of The Simpsons season four.

Is there any notable difference in on how ghosts are depicted as manifesting in places that deal with corpses differently? I've head that burial shrouds are to explain why we associate ghosts with sheets, but what about cultures where cremation is the default?

I am probably the only person who wrote online about the Flash Foster story from Young Men #22 this month. I give you my personal guarantee that that is probably true: www.bookofpdr.com/2026/09/25/y...

A splash page from a comic titled "Flash Foster and his High-Gear Hot-Shots!" If shows a young teenager racing a yellow hot rod down a track with other cars coming up behind him as his friends watch from the sides. With a "BANG!" one of his tires is bursting.

What are your house rules for chess? Among my group, when you land on the danger square you have to roll to see if you can collect the bishop's treasure. Anyone else have rules like that?

This movie needed more Star Wars to justify the title. I count one Star War and one mention if a Clone War, which we could not at that time be certain was a Star War. Do not go in expecting many Star Wars.

The gulf between the meaner Hulk and the childlike one was growing earlier (as you note), but given that we are later told Hulk avoided killing people because of Bruce's influence, could that accidental killing have been what finally helped Bruce's mind move the more innocent form to the forefront?

100

Patrick D Ryall @bookofpdr.com · 20/09/2026

In the issues after that I noted that Hulk was switching back and forth between first/third person even more rapidly than usual, and only a few issues after that was the "Hulk just want to be left alone" character I love pretty much permanently for that era.

Patrick D Ryall @bookofpdr.com · 20/09/2026

I also prefer the latter Hulk, and I've found another point that interests me regarding that change, though it is later than this. In Incredible Hulk #118 (from 1969) we get Hulk accidentally killing an Atlantean villain when he throws a rock or something, and he barely notices consciously.

Does no one else find this an unforgivably stupid question? Emissions reductions won't make a heat wave NOW survivable. Likewise, more homes can have AC, heat pumps while overall cutting greenhouse emissions. This isn't an "either/or", both are needed. www.theguardian.com/environment/...

I've always had an interest in the comic books era between WW2 and the '60s, when superheroes were out of fashion and other genres had room to grow. It didn't always work out for the best. Here's a look at the first Flash Foster and his High-Gear Hot-Shots story. www.bookofpdr.com/2026/08/22/y...
