I'm a librarian. I also do a lot of crochet and cross stitch. I do a fair bit of stuff but it's mostly around #infolit #critlit and relationship management in HE. Managing Editor for Journal of Information Literacy.

But recognising that power is ingrained within information could be seen as a mark of being literature about information….

Just a reminder, if you're seeing crochet on clothes at fast-fashion stores and you're not paying a lot for it, the person who did that crochet is not getting paid a lot either. There is no machine-made crochet, unlike knits. A human is doing that with their hands.

There’s no A.I. “literacy”. There is only power, to either rebuild or eradicate commonly shared knowledge production. They haz it. Remains to be seen if we haz some too.

In case it wasn't clear, academia is crumbling under the enormous flood of AI-generated content. The latest victim is the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA) flagship EU postdoctoral fellowships. The number of submissions has more than doubled in the past 3 years.

From research idea to research article: reflections on two JIL workshops – Information Literacy Website
Research can sometimes feel like something other people do. In our day-to-day work we might have questions, notice patterns, or have ideas about how to improve practice. However, turning these questions and ideas into a piece of research fit for publication can feel like a much bigger step.

But at the same time if you’ve earned that MSc or MCLIP or whatever you SHOULD be proud of it and celebrate it and include it in your professional identity if it means something to you and shows the hard work and time you’ve put in. What a puzzler.

It depends very much on the audience. I despise delivering training to a load of boxes with initials in them, I quite enjoy being able to present to a much wider audience I would have access to otherwise.

This is not a joke: I have a serious bibliographical question about something I'm writing an article on, and this question can probably only be answered by someone who has worked in plumbing for at least 10 years (ideally someone who has been in the industry even longer). Does anyone have a contact?

Honestly I think bringing back something like a black armband and the socially accepted idea of what that means would be a great thing. Not to compare the impact of the two but look at the sunflower lanyard, people know what it means and give people grace when they see it (or should!)
