The comforting story that England and-English football told itself in the early twenty-first century was that its once over- whelming, audible racism had been silenced. Rather than baying crowds, anti-racism statements over the public address system and pitch-side adverts were now the norm at every club. The sports press were sufficiently self-righteous that, where the England team was concerned, they could angrily condemn the racism of Spanish and Slovakian crowds. Even as Ipswich's CEO is trying to sorry-not-sorry his way out of allowing Nigel Farage to use the club to amplify its message of hate, Reform are trolling the Ipswich women's team. Perhaps now the CEO will finally realise what he's done and resign.

I first leaned towards thinking that Farage's disastrous photo-op at Portman Road was due to incompetence (and Reform tricking the club into letting it happen). But that was before Ipswich Town FC released this statement. Clearly, they knew what would be staged, and went along with it.

I feel numb. I've heard from a few people who won't set foot in the stadium because of this. Friends from marginalised backgrounds who have supported the club for 30+ years. The stupidity of this whole thing is beyond comprehension. I am however proud of our fanbase's response to this sorry saga

The political party in question has posted a video of the visit yesterday. There is footage showing a shirt being signed. If you screenshot and zoom in it looks to me like it says "To Mark" I wonder which Mark at #itfc had this shirt given to them? Enquiring minds etc
