I Like good comics, and know the difference. I LOVE the craft and art of sequential graphical storytelling. I mostly post/repost about comics, creating comics, and comics creators. Very ocassionaly other stuff of interest. (Will comment on ANYTHING)

Old 2000 AD really knew how to bring the good stuff to the cover party.
ON the cover of AD 2000 #417, Strontium Dog rumbles across an orange wasteland to the right as a convoy of mutant wasteland denizens push through a cloud of dust atop their various motor-chariots led by the magnificently bearded Wulf Sternhammer and ol' knobby headed Middenface McNulty who shouts "Oot O' the way there! Stronty Dug Comin' Through!"
The front-page banner 'explains' that ... "In the badlands of Burrito *THE BIG BUST IS GO!*"

As far as I know, Hüsker Dü just means "Do you Remember?". Given that they formed in Minneapolis in a region with a heavy Scandinavian immigrant population, it seemed likely that they just knew of the phrase and/or the game.

Nitzer Ebb (according to the band) was a random, made-up name. Something that sounded German but wasn't. (They are English). Joy Division (as I understand it) is a reference to Imperial Japanese Army practice of capturing conquered women and forcing them into sex work to service Japanese soldiers.

I suspect there are other abstracted representations at play here...

I did, and it always cracked me up. (Danish father, so I knew the phrase and the game before the band). I spent a lot of timing trying to figure out what Nitzer Ebb meant (apparently nothing) and was disappointed to find out what Joy Division actually meant.

You can't legislate good customer service, and anyone who's had to deal with the government can tell you, the Federal government fails more than most at service. That being said, thus *IS* a problem, but it's one we have all helped create by acquiessence, and we have to correct it in the market.

I guess it would depend on the fuse. I know from experience that there are small Texas towns where the only place that sells automotive fuses is open 10-4, and not on weekends or you drive 100 miles/90 minutes to a "real" town. Don't even get me started on batteries, but those aren't small.

Dancing Paladin @bojanglespaladin.bsky.social · 06/07/2026
Even smaller would be a critical fuse. About the size of a quarter and costs a few bucks, without it, car don't run. (But to be nitpicky, you'd have to explain why the spare fuses that come with every car are gone. An OLD car requires no such explination.)

Alternator belt. The item itself is small and inexpensive enough (could fit in your back pocket, rolled) , but not something you can get out in the middle of no where and you'd need tools and time to replace it. Timing belt is you want it to require a mechanic.

WaPo is paywalled, but "third party thinks some supporters may have been confused" is thin. Are sponsors who made a mistake and sent money to the wrong organization named? Those sponsors have a cause of action for fraud, but somehow I doubt any claims of deception will be made by sponsors.

At the end of the day "Polypropylene Bags" opened the context enough to show me options that weren't context-tagged for comics collecting. Hope this is helpful to someone.

Dancing Paladin @bojanglespaladin.bsky.social · 28/06/2026
The lesson learned here is that many nights of algorithm misdirected searching for larger comic book bags were wasted before realizing that the damn searches were assuming context for me and limiting options to certain "popular" (if not sponsored) options that didn't meet my stated criteria.

Dancing Paladin @bojanglespaladin.bsky.social · 28/06/2026
There's an extra inch up top you can trim if you care, but they'll fit into the standard magazine boxes and hold your Progs nice and snug... and not slop around inside a Treasury or oversize magazine bag. Note that it's snug enough that if you have a bad rolled spine, you'll want to fix it first.

I can't be the only one in the States collecting 2000 AD, who's had a real challenge finding the appropriate size bags and boards for the early few hundred Progs when they were pure newsprint and 9 1/4" X 11 ¼". Turns out Sheet Music Boards work just fine! www.bcwsupplies.com/sheet-music-...

Alan Davis is one of the greatest overall artists of the last 50 years. Top of the field for esthetics, storytelling, draftsmanship, life acting, action, and especially humor. I'll never get how he's not mentioned in the same context as Kubert, Toth, Ditko, Adams, Wrightson, Lee, Gibbons, etc.

Found this lovely bit of hagiography for Mrs. Chiang Kai-shek in the back of Wonder Woman #6 from 1943. Honestly wasn't expecting that. This is why originals are better than reprint collections if you can get them. Sooo much cultural context in the back matter.

I've done a few commissions with a few artists and I cannot reccomend @stazjohnson.bsky.social highly enough. One of the best engagements. Proffesional, responsive, reasonably accommodating, and the finished piece was WAY better than I'd hoped for. The whole process genuinely brought me joy.

Well, as you might expect, I'd say Hellboy and Grendel. But Princess Leah and Han Solo might be fun. Or Baroness and Destro from GIJOE. Lastly, Mary Poppins and Bert, but fully armed and ready to fight nazis.

Yeah. Anime was well established as part of American pop culture by the 80s. Even in Houston, TX you could find specialty shops selling Anime tapes, Manga, gaidakin, etc. by the mid-80s. By the early 90s even people who didn't hunt it down (or even like it) knew what it was.

Yeah, that's what I have series grouped by series if it's Hulk, or Dredd or something that has multiple creators. For instance, all my Mignolaverse books are together, and so are my Sandman Mystery Theater trades. But Guy Davis has his own section of Marquis, Baker Street, etc.

I do comics by strict title order, but bookshelves are by creator and/or series (like Thor, Books of Magic) Which quickly gets subjective. A. Moore, Mignola, Jodawarski get a section regardless of artist, but Vess, Moebius, Allred do too - and those overlaps have to be adjuticated. 🤷 💌 It works.

Duncan let me and Jess watch ROGUE TROOPER last night and HOLY FUCKING SHIT, GANG! It's sooooo fucking good. Hilarious, fun, hard-R violent, adapted straight from the pages of the comic. 2000AD fans are gonna lose their minds, and just try not to throw a fist in the air at the final needle drop. 🤯🤯🤯
