30 Sept 1782 // 100-gun 1st-rate HMS Ville de Paris, captured from the French in a damaged state at the Saintes on 12 April 1782, was sailing from Jamaica (where repairs had been carried out) to England when her convoy was struck by the violent storm of 16-17 September. She was left heavily damaged.
'The Ville de Paris, Foundering in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean', engraving from 1808. National Maritime Museum, public domain image via Wikimedia Commons. A view of the stern of a large sailing warship as she is overwhelmed by a violent storm. Men are gathered on the upper stern gallery and many more can be seen on the right struggling amid debris in the water.

At least 40 ant genera are known to use "cooperative transport" in similar ways, but only Leptogenys, to my knowledge, forms these ant-to-ant daisy chains. Here are some Longhorn crazy ants (Paratrechina longicornis) pulling a dead cockroach by the conveniently long antennae. (📷: Dee Davidson)

Of course I had to start searching for more Malm Whale images and found this one. Now I want to start a rumor that this whale was also the inspiration for the Kool-Aid Man "Wall Burst" ad campaign. Oh yeah!

On deck of a whale ship. From the New Bedford whaling museum archives. Maybe 1880ish
Men, dogs, possibly other animals crowd the deck of a ship. Skins or maybe fish hang from a wooden shelter on deck. Barrels of presumably whale oil are stored under the shelter. On top are extra spars ropes and other materials
